Now, see, this is why I get shivers when I think about all BoB (the game, people) could be if it gets the love and attention it deserves.

Who cares that there's only a few aircraft to start with! Just think, the natural progressions in Flight, Damage and Weather models aside, if they were to listen to a movie like this and incorporate THAT sort of sound when I turn over the pistons in my Spit.

I mean, the mic on that steadycam was pretty crappy, and it was peaking out everytime one of the Spits got anywhere close, but even there you feel a rumble down to the pit of your stomach everytime those Merlins 'n' Griffons pass overhead.

Heck, if they get the sounds right in BoB I'd get a copy even if they forget to put wings on the planes! Well, ok, I'd whinge about it, but I'd still be happy.

All the thanks from a Spitfire lover that did see this in real but never lost the memory of the sound of it.

Once again thanks.

Just listen to those engines sing, sends a shiver down your spine, dosen't it. 1700HP of pure power roaring thru the air.
That a sound that gonna fill your enemy with fear.

I would pay money just to get the sounds right in this and future games, Oleg take that up and think about it... a sound add on with all the real sounds, and dont forget the song of the spitfire!

Most of those had 2080HP Griffons! You can make out the IX's and the one VB there just about but the roar of those Griffons just cuts those little Merlins right out!

Really nice stuff. I really enjoyed the multiple low flying. I didn`t realise they still allowed that with vintage aircraft. Wonderful!

Yes that along with the absence of a few key planes is what hurts Il2..overall a great sim
but the plane engine sounds are horrid , I know what an Allison , Merlin , Pratt & Whitney .Daimler Benz sound like and for the life of me I dont understand why Oleg didnt bother. Getting the sound files is very easy and makes the sim alot more realistic . If sims like CFS3..Aces High can let you addon the sounds why doesnt Oleg change the code and let us do the same ?

The sim would benefit greatly if users were able to modify the sounds, make maps, and skin objects. Leave the aircraft and flight models as they are and open up most everything else. It'd probably require the development of some sort of SDK... but it may make the difference between IL2 being played for a long time vs. a very, very long time (like EAW and Grand Prix Legends).

Wow, that was fun to watch http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I've alway's had a thing about the "Griffon" Spit's more then the "Merlin" one's. Maybe not as graceful, but a plane with lots of Staying Power http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

For those in the UK, who are going to be in the midlands this Saturday, the Rugeley Charter Fair will have a 8 minute Spitfire display over the Hagley Park playing fields. It'll be the MkVB formally of 317 (Polish)Squadron, which is part of the Duxford collection, and will give a full aerobatic demonstration. Too good to pass up if happen to be in the area. Fair warning http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If Oleg let you modify the sounds then people would cheat by adding NULL sounds to planes engines sounds.

Now, how would the game benefit from that exactly?

05-31-2005, 03:17 PM
That's their loss; they won't have the benefit of realistic and immersing engine sounds. They won't have an advantage over other players, either; already, you can hear sounds that you should not hear. In addition, I can already hear some sounds from dozens of miles away.

I'm not a Spitfire fanatic, and that movie gave me the shivers! I quite agree that engine sounds are critical to making Battle of Britain a better game than this one.
