View Full Version : La7 STILL overheating to quickly in Patch v1.1

I've just tested the LA7 in patch v1.1 and opening the cowl flaps still does not provide any extra cooling for the engine. All they do is provide more drag. So the cowl flaps are useless on this plane.

I was hoping this would get fixed in the finished patch, but obviously not. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

That's good, this plane was an UFO!

Are you kidding us sir?

-K4 rudder
-Emil (slower than i-16 at sea leve in automatic mode)
-Emil overheating with manual mode.
-Engine overheating in germans planes.

Please, concentrate in the important thinks. The La7 engine gets cool very quickly, is not a problem. If you think that engine overheating is a problem, try a 30m/s climb and cry. This low speed in the reality = OVERHEATING (radial engine = needs airflow....).

Please, let's speak seriously.

No I was using sarcasm.

What I really meant was your comment was about as useful as the MC.205 was during WWII m8.

With radiators closed the La-7 still takes twice as long to overheat compared to a Fw 190D-9 when performing a max performance climb,, strange behaviour for a radial.

No I am not kidding you sir.

It is a major problem with the plane in the game.

And from your comments, I would say you have NEVER tried it in the game.

Of course, and your comment to my "useful" comment was really useful, wasn't it?

I only tested the plane at sea level, flying straight and level.

I would like to see your data on this.

I'm going to do my own tests on this.

Maybe we could compare data?

You are honestly complaining about the LA7?

ROFLMFAO!!!

There is nothing wrong with the LA7. The problem is with you trying to fly around the whole time at 110% power.

Hey Cippa, do you really have to behave like a dirty little mouse who sneaks and squeezes everywhere and infest the place with those tiny mouse $hit like your childish comments? Why not? Childish comments to childish whines. I caught you in our trap, guy!

Yeah, man, now you have one post more, and me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're getting great!

Anyway, I think that infesting useless whining and anti-whining threads is not so bad. Creating new of such threads is worst, isn't it?

Peace and Love

With radiator closed at sea level on 110% power, the overheat message comes on at 2:56min and engine damage starts to occur at 5:00min (that's when the plane starts to lose speed).

With radiator fully open at sea level on 110% power, the overheat message comes on at 2:40min and engine damage starts to occur at 4:47min (again that's when the planes starts to slow down).

So the engine actually overheats slightly more quickly with radiator fully open, than it does with radiator fully closed. And you say there is nothing wrong with the La7?

Another comment from someone who never flies the plane in the game.

And before you ROFLMFAO!!! it's best if you know what you're talking about.

So, you said in your post #1 at the beginning of the thread that radiators open do not provide extra cooling.
Ok, I've tested like this:
-Height 2,700-3,000 m (that is more realistic for combat rather than sea level).
-Forszah from the beginning.
-Radiator closed.
-Pitch at 85%.

Overheat occurred after about 5 min (please watch the movie at http://www.uploadit.org/files/050903-La-7_overheating.ntrk).

Engine troubles started at 7 minutes.

After >10 minutes engine was coughing but still alive.

At about 12 min I had enough of the UFO and stopped the recording.

Unfortunately, the server I use to upload stuff doesn't support the >10 minutes movie because it's >600kB. Thus, just watch the 5 min one, which goes on until overheat, and for the rest trust me or, if you have a good alternative address, I'll upload the full 10 min one.

I think you made 2 mistakes in your testing.

1 - Sea level is not where planes are supposed to fly. Expecially if you take-off from mountains or hills, you'll be already some hundred meters above sea level. At sea level air is thicker and warmer and there's more drag. Moreover, most combat DON'T occur at sea level, because planes use to fly and fight higher and being few meters from the ground and the water is very dangerous.

2 - In your tests, you did not mention propeller pitch. When you fly full throttle, engine tends to "overturn" (turn above builder's limits), and if it stays too much at combat RPM levels (for La-7 is 2500 RPM) it will brake. To avoid this, set prop pitch at less than 100% (let's say 85-90%) to decrease RPM to 2300-2400. It's like keeping your car in a low gear while having RPM counter in the red zone: you'll go fast, but you'll burn your engine. Switch on the higher speed, and you'll go as fast as before, but the engine will last longer.

Consider that K4 engines overheats after 2-3 minutes and breaks totally 1-2 min after... => La-7=UFO.

OK?

Bye!
