Over France it was the old channel JGs, JG 26 "Schlageter" and JG 2 "Richthofen". JG 2 shot down the first 8th AF B-17.
Over Holland and northern Germany, JG 1 and JG 11 were responsible for air defense, as well as III./JG 54. Also there were the mosquito hunting groups JGr 25 and 50 (led by Herrmann Graf).
Other JGs were later transferred to the home defense from the med and the east front. Actually the only JG which never served in home defense was JG 52.
