I preordered the ps5 version of assassin's creed valhalla, but I think that to play it on the day one I will change my preorder so that I will buy the ps4 version of the game.
Anyhow, when the ps5 will be released,I'll want to play it on my ps5.
So how does the free upgrade work?
I haven't understood if I must download a patch or if I must download all the digital version of the game yet.

Thanks!
I've read all the articles of the support.
I made this discussion because none of them was clear for me.
I don't need that someone sends to me an article.
I need that someone gives me a clear answer.

The upgrade system works when you purchase the PS4 version, you are unable to purchase the PS5 version and downgrade at the moment.

For digital copies purchased on the Playstation store, you will be able to download the upgraded version when it becomes available by logging into your next-gen console with the account you purchased the game on.

For physical copies, you will be able to download the upgraded version when it becomes available. The disc must be inserted to launch both the current-gen and next-gen versions of the game.

Next-gen upgrades are not available for physical versions of the game if you have upgraded to a discless console. It is also not possible to upgrade from a digital current-gen edition to a physical next-gen edition.

Once you have completed the upgrade, you will still be able to play your game on your PlayStation 4.

If you need any further help, please let us know.

Thank you.

Thanks for the information.
Like I said in the other discussion,I've already changed my preorder.
I think that I've finally understood how the free upgrade works, also thanks to some videos about the upgrade of the ps3 games to their ps4 version.
If the free upgrade will work like the upgrade of Assassin's Creed IV,it will be a problem because at the moment I don't have a broadband at home, but I think that this problem will be solved before the release of the ps5.
