Hi Guys,

Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, this map is NOT guaranteed to be in the game. I made it as an extra project and Oleg only got it tonight, so no promises. He hasn't even looked at it yet.

Anyway, 4 screenshots below. It's quite a nice map with a nice texture that rewards a good cammo scheme. There are some roads and villages and a ruined castle, lighthouse etc and lots of barren hills, but realistic ones.

The main change is the airbases. No runway objects at all, but a wide smoothed "rolled" area behind the white landing T mark. Landing and taking off are no problem as long as you run straight.

Now that looks seriously good. I particularly like the idea of no clearly marked runway. I hope that allows some 'massed' take offs.

The landscape is very refreshing. Outstanding work.

Im sure we all hope and pray it gets included.

LOL, just need some mountain to the east a little of a fan to a river (if my house existed in 1945 you could have seen the Trinity shot out my living room window---and it's over 100 miles from here).

Actually, the base here in town, Kirtland AFB, was the bombing school during the war. There is an old wartime movie with Pat O'Brien and Eddie Albert called Bombardier that was filmed here, it was on AMC and I noticed the mountains behind my house in a shot as I clicked past it. Since then, I've met a B-25 driver who trained crews here, funny stories about bombing the desert rather than bringing bombs back (and pretty close to town, too).

Awesome work Ian! I know it's not set in stone, but would be awesome if can be added for the next update. I'm more interested in maps than anything else for this game now and this would be far more realistic then the current North Africa map we have.

Thanks for your hard work and efforts! YOU ROCK!

Outstanding!!

Now this really looks like Nth Africa especially when compared to the current offering in game.

To not get this included would be a major loss to all of us.

This map looks awesome!

I've never seen such a realistic desert map on that..."game" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Thank you once again Ian m8. Your efforts are truly appreciated sir! You and the whole crew that helped Oleg put this sim together over the years? Well, let's just say words can't express how much it has meant to this community. Absolutley mind blowing at the dedication to this sim & thoughtfulness of offering these two free maps you have posted about over the last few days to us that play and support this sim. Incredible to the nth degree Ian. Thank you again!

Heard from Oleg today. He thinks it will be in the game but after Christmas (because of version compatibility issues).

This level of support for a flight sim is unheard of. Thx for all the hard work and dedication, Ian.

~S~ Looks a lot like the landscape of Northern Morocco (and therefore, I assume, the rest of Northern Africa, too).

The general take off area looks a great idea, too - only hope that mission builders remember to put some kind of marker (windsock, for example) so poor old blind s0ds like me can find the T when we spawn in... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Fantastic work, this! Hope we get it.

Really nice Ian! We could sure use another med-map. I like the idea of a "free format" airfield. However, the default texture has roads on it which is a bit odd. Isn't it possible to replace it with a new general "airstrip" texture? Something like this, but than like a square (think the trees are not there!):

If you mean the tracks etc, well people do drive all across airfields, as well as walk, tow planes etc.

Is this official?
And is this the only way how 4.06 and 4.07 will be released?

Y'know guys, I'm normally a pretty upbeat kinda' guy, but if the newest updates REQUIRE the PE-2 4_05 paid add-on, then count me OUT. It's not that I have a problem with the cost, that's easy. My bone of contention is that it is a download. Give me a CD or DVD and I'd be more than happy to fork over the bucks. Plus it sounds like this bootyhound thing or whatever it's called is just a big pain arse. OK, rant over. All the best, LongHorn

Wounderful news!

I would say a DVD with all addons up to 4.07 does necessarly include 4.05 and exclude a download only release.

I felt exactly the same until I did it. I did the copy original exe file and replace thing just incase but I suspect it wasn't needed. The point is I'm really IT thick and managed, I now download loads of stuff eg Rome TW Alexander. Mind u the fact that RTW Alex did eventually come out on disk might give u hope.

Cheers WM

PS I agree that it shouldn't have been that complicated in the first place, but "don't cut off your nose despite your face" as my mum says, the Pe-2 is v cool.
