Watching this *almost* brought a tear to my eye. This was my first flight sim. I used to have so much fun with this as a kid.

And now look at what we have, and people still complain.

That must've been Microprose's answer to Chuck Yeagers Air Combat- a sim I wish I could run on my present day PC. I still have the diskettes. My favorite Microprose sim was F117 Stealth Fighter. One could choose from an amazing array of air to ground and air to air weaponry. It had the most detailed depiction of an anti-air system I've seen in a game.

My least favorite was Harrier Jump Jet. It used some sort of godawful landscape rendering technology that took away all sense of scale and speed. It was like trying to fly through an acid trip.

I regard 1987-1997 as the golden age of computer games. It took a lot of imagination both to create and play games back then. And I think the best of them had a certain amount of style that is rarely seen in any caliber or genre of PC game today.

Well, the name of the game (pun intended) in any highly competetive environment IMHO. Even if everything was 100% spot on they'd _still_ complain, at least about the buggers being too hard to fly if nothing else http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Sorry, a bit OT. Please carry on gents.

I know how you feel with the tear comment.

SWOTL was my first, but the flightsim I had the most time on(aside from this one) was

THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhwmwewHqrs)

I swear, when I see the Dynamix logo and hear that sound at the beginning, it gives me goose bumps. I LOVED that game!

Aces over Europe was my favorite of mine until European Air War made its debut.

Aces over Europe was great.

I started with this back in 1983:

Falcon2 got me into multiplayer dogfights:

But this is, what I played most:

Never played dogfight. First pc games I ever played were these two when I was about 7.

First is X-wing by LucasArts, the second is Red Baron by Dynamix. Even at 7 I used to play it at full realism with a little 2 button joystick.

I think the first flight sim for me was Gunship on my C64. The targets and terrain were just wireframes in that game. I also remember a ground attack sim called Strike Aces that I played alot.

Once I got a 386 it was the Lucasarts, Dynamix, Falcon 3.0, and Wing Commander games. I'd hate to add up all the hours I spent as a teenager playing those games.

That Sabre is over-modelled, that's for sure http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

One of my firsts was the F15 Strike Eagle:

Man, I've played that game a lot!
