Mk. VI is planned to be flyable, but Mk. IV is AI for now (from Oleg's update), so only Mk. VI cockpit will be made, IIRC.

Details on Prangsters wonderful Mosqutio are here!

(copy and paste URL)

The fighter version was easier to implement than the bomber version so the choice between Mossie and no Mossie says give me a Mossie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'd just like to say thanks Prangster.
Thanks for your hard work getting this plane in game. For me it was one of those planes that made you say OMG when you realized it was'nt ingame. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
I still wonder how it could have been overlooked. The fastest fight of WW2.

And thanks to any others that helped you, "Were getting it!!!"

Dark days ahead for the Blue side http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Prangster,

I've been flying this sim since the IL2 demo and most of the time can't bring myself to join in the general whining or sniping in this forum.

This is the one A/C I've been desperate to have in IL2 since its inception (I just don't whine about what I don't have when I have hundreds of A/C I'll never have time to master) and, dang it to hell, you've gone and made me do a post.

I'd pay 30 for just the Mosquito, thats how much I like this A/C, this sim and how sadly desperate I am http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Many thanks for all your (and Enbriac's) hard work (or is that blood, sweat and tears) on this, I can't wait to fly it.

Salut!

I hope this doesn't sound silly, but, there are many anecdotal accounts of the Mosquito's performance. What are the actual numbers for the FB version we are going to be able to fly?

well i hope at 5500 feet we'll be able to do 368 mph which is the figure i have seen alot of http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif So would I but don't give him any ideas. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

As for the IV I really wish that the VI cockpit minus the gunsight could be used.

All it would mean is we couldn't go in the nose, well:-

a) if you were flying the the plane you couldn't go in the nose anyway

b) most people would use it for low level ops were the nose isn't relevant

The VI didn't start operations until 43' were as the IV started ops in 42' and became famous for spectacular low level raids long before the VI came into service, so having both would offer a much wider scope for mission builders.

Oleg has been pragmatic with completely blocking off the observer position of the Beaufighter so why not a similar thing with the Mossie?

It would be wonderful to fly that beautiful aircraft, relying purely on speed for defence.

yeah its great we have mossie, id love a bomb aimer position and cookies http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

flyin along at 6990 metres, twin merlins growlin away, nearly untouchable so u dont haveto worry on the bomb run http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

mossie should be slightly faster than contemporay german fighters... and u should have a resonable chance in a dogfight with them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

See, now you guys are getting me all excited too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I'm coming into this at the best time, I think. I'm not a Mossie fan (yet ?) and really don't know much past the basics about it. Right now, I'm really only interested in using it to recreate the movie 633 Squadron starring Cliff Robertson http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. But if the developers do a real good job, I'll read up more on this bird.

Were Mossies used in the Pacific Theater (or CBI, for that matter) ?

Ah, Mossies are for chickensh*t pilots who can only hide and skulk and run back to Mommy.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (totally facetious, mind you; flying any of these things for real took balls)

Mossies did have the lowest loss rate in the RAF...perhaps of the entire Allied side. I forget the specifics.

All I remember was that if I were thrown back in time and wanted to survive air combat in Europe, the Mosquito would be the plane to be in.

Was that the one based at Woodford? I saw that overfly my house when i was a kid, couldn't quite believe my eyes (i.e. I don't live near Duxford http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif)

You'll never be able to re-create 633 squadron, the author invented an imaginary version with a pair of cut-down hispanos and a pair of brownings, an FB version that could still carry 4x500lbers. Mind you, d'you think we could get that past Oleg?

Also, D'you think we should ask for a TI loadout, I'd love to go doing some PFF stuff?

Mossies were used in the PTO, 5th? TAF operating in Burma? got them eventually.

Btw, thanks, Prangster, awesome work http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Hi,

Very nice work indeed. This is one of the very few aircraft I've known about ahead of release and actually looked forward to. The other was the Me110.

The 110 model is possibly the best in the game (262 is close, though) and I have no doubt that the Mossie will join it.

Cheers,
Norris

I have always looked forward to the DeHavilland Mosquito in the game. I live on Vancouver Island and my girl is from the Queen Charlotte Islands. Many Mosquitos were made from Sitka spruce from British Columbia. I am looking forward to a fast, well armed ride.

Is there any chance we'll see the bomber version on a later stage? It's not that I'm not thrilled over the planned version - it's awesome but I'm just being greedy http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

A while back I remember watching a show on the History channel about a daring raid some Mosquito pilots made.

They flew deep into germany and bombed a prison where British pilots were being held.

They came in low and blasted a hole in the front wall of the 2 story building which was acting as their prison. In the insueing chaos all of the prisoners escapted. Though most were re-cault while attempting to make their way too france. I think they said 2 made it all the way back to england.

One of those unbelievable storys from WW2

That was the Amiens raid, which is in France not Germany. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

They weren't freeing pilots but French Resistance fighters who were due for execution.

You've mixed up that story with 'the Great Escape' in which 2 pows made it back to Britain after the others were recaptured.

Yeap, I think your right.

Amazing how the managed to hit that building without killing any of the prizoners.

Well, looks like all I remembered right was the fact that they flew mosquitos lol

Would make a good first mission when we get it in game.

If you're amazed at that, check out some of the stuff 617 did with their Lancs, (and Mossies target marking) (after the Dams raid)

On one jaunt to the Michelin factory at Clermont-Ferand, a factory complex consisting of 3 workshops and a factory canteen, GC Cheshire flew low over the Factory 3 times to warn the girls to get to the canteen, then marked the workshops from low level(in a Lanc, this was before he got Mossies) The rest of 617 then flew in at normal height and levelled the workshops and left the canteen standing. I believe they later got a note of thanks from the workers there.
