View Full Version : An excellent idea to implement

The effect of bullets ricocheting from the IL-2 armour is excellent. Why not to implement that effect also for ground targets? Imagine Hurri or P40 or P47 strafing the convoy with softer and better armored vehicles, and every X bullet ricochets in various angles when hitting the hard part...

-------------

"The picture repeats itself when operations, which began with great intent and local successes, degenerated into senseless, wild hammering at fixed front-line positions once they encounter initial heavy losses and unforeseen situations. This incomprehensible phenomenon appears again and again. But, even in extremis, the Russian is never logical; he falls back on his natural instinct, and the nature of the Russian is to use mass, steamroller tactics, and adherence to given objectives without regard to changing situations."

Yes.

This eye candy is wonderfull when playing in/against Il2's.

Extend it to some other armoured planes parts or objects would be great.

I've seen 37mm rounds ricochet from Russian tanks flying the Ju-87. But the problem is hitting their behind doesn't kill them, either.

Uhm... so should you actally be able to see the bounced bullets somehow?

Because I don't see 'em /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif (Or maybe I haven't noticed, or have my graphic settings too low?)... or what did you mean with the "eye candy" there Maraudeur?

That's exactly that, ricocheting bullets.

When firing at Il-2's, sometimes you can see some sort of white, thin and elongated flashes around and leaving the target the opposite direction of the incoming rounds, as ricocheting effect on the plane armour. It is very nice.

Sorry, my bad english do not allow me to put the words just I would like to do to explain that visual effect. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-sad.gif

Settings at excellent, not max, it appears on my system ( radeon 9700 ).

I see, interesting... Haven't noticed those at all...

Heya, could you do me a small favour and check if you have the "Stencil Buffer" setting ON at the setup?
Wasn't that what boosted all the graphics, atleaest shadows should look prettier, or how was it? As I only have GF2, and can't enable the stenicl buffer, so that could be why I'm not seeing those.

Maybe I should just upgrade to that Radeon 9600 I've been thinking about lately /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yes, stencil buffer is on.

Will try without to see if it's related.

it s not the question of SB on/off. Take a Hurri and fire at IL-2 from the rear: the steel ricochets the light mg bullets like hell

Yeah Jurinko you were right, I do see 'em even though I can't enable stencil buffer.
I just did what you suggested and took a Hurri VS IL-2 and some of the bullets really did bounce of making a cool smoke effect /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I guess I haven't seen those because I mainly shoot in and at a wooden planes, and with cannons... and that I'm a n00b /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ...

Thank you everyone for clearing this up for me /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
