View Full Version : [Anno 1404] Performance Drops in 3D-Annos

Does it happen to anyone else that the performance of 1404 and 1701 drops very fast once a few buildings have been built? 60 FPS are pretty much impossible while playing on the highest zoom-level. I checked and nothing is bottlenecking the games, CPU, RAM and GPU are all around 60% usage. Lowering the graphics of 1404 helped, but I needed to lower them significantly.

I have noticed lower performance in the History Edition versus the original. Not sure if it is related to the fact that Anno 1404 HE now only uses DirectX 9 instead of DirectX 10 like the original?

I am running the games on the same maxed out 2560x1440 settings and the same save file by the way, the only difference being HE is DX9 and the original is DX10 (and, thus, using enhanced transparencies which do not work with the DX9 HE build).

The framerates after 5-10 seconds of resuming the same save are as follows:

Anno 1404 (DX10 original) = 144-152 fps
Anno 1404 (D9 HE) = 90-105 fps

This is on the same maxed out 2560x1440 settings with 8xAF and 8xAA but with Transparency On for the original since it is not supported by the newer HE version due to using DX9. So, yes, that's a pretty significant performance loss for a supposedly modernised version!!! It may be because DX9 does not support multi-threading?

Oh and the HE build is 64-bit by the way so that is at least an improvement, which gives the game access to more than 2-4 GB of memory, but it does help performance.

Just to add: We're currently looking into reports regarding performance issues with Anno 1404.
