View Full Version : New releases? and whats the deal with ubisoft?

I am trying to decide if I should try to locate AEP or wait for, what I have heard is a new all in one collection that will have everything on one DVD (allegedly).

My retailer calls it "IL2 Air Combat Collection" which sounds quite cool I think

I also read these forums and hear of something called BoB (Battle of Britain?) which is interesting to me (or will this be inlcluded in IL2 Air Combat Collection too?).

I can't find ANY information from Ubisofts main website (atleast not the Swedish one - it forces me into the Swedish website because I live in Sweden without a chance to get to the main sites).

If I do a google search for "il2" the first link i get is

www.il2sturmovik.com/ (http://www.il2sturmovik.com/)

which actually just forwards me on to www.ubisoft.com/SE (http://www.ubisoft.com/SE) which has NOTHING about IL2 on it what so ever??

or are Ubisoft purposely trying to drive IL2 into the ground or something? (Yes I know that the specific il2 website exists but it doesn't get updated very often, and the even the older patch update links don't work anymore!).

I think that would be quite strange as IL2 has masses of potential. It has a huge and loyal following, and one of the most realistic air combat simulations going. With an integrated server listing and some usability improvements I think it could be one of ubisofts biggest successes.

I guess what I want to know is it worth me investing alot of my time getting into il2 or will it die out soon? There seems to be alot of online multiplayer interest on hyperlobby for the pf/aep/fb merged install.

Would be great if there was one DVD , that has everything on it (and all the little utils etc that the community has made) with one server listing, cumulative and non cumlative patches and try to keep everything together that way.

It will feel a bit like buying PF and FB twice buying the DVD, but if it has everything in one, I will buy it.

I am pretty sure this "Il2 Air Combat Collection" you speak of is the rumored, but I believe now, confirmed all in one package. I do not know a release date on this, but I assume its fairly soon - although, it may come out after E3 (May, right?) because Oleg and team is supposedly going to be showing off the BoB (Battle of Britain) Engine, so from a marketing stand point, this would be a good time to release the "old" game.

As for BoB, this is the next-gen engine 1C Maddox games is hard at work on, not much has been released on its features (what has been, you can find here (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/IL2BOB/index.htm)).

IMO, IL2 is far from its death, if you look around, you'll find most sims have a strong following many years after the sequel or a better game has been released. Not everyone is going to move to BoB on its release, many may not have the hardware to run it, so PF+FB+AEP will still have its following, not only that, playing with aircraft from 1 battle isn't gonna keep everyone playing it all the time (although, I could be wrong seeing as the new features may make it more than worth it).

So, I say, stick with the current series, there will be more expansions as well as a possibility that Oleg will release some tools making the game open for modification (not always a good thing, but we'll see what happens).
