View Full Version : First online kill of a "live' person...

01-13-2006, 10:02 AM
As some of you may know I've been playing this sim for years but have ventured online only of late. While it's been fun, it's also been tough going. My take off's in a P-47 are a 50/50 affair at "best". When ground pounding, I can't seem to put a bomb on the target, I swear Helen Keller could do better. And my dog-fighting "phew" emphasis on Dog. Until Last night I had about 5 kills online total and none of the human type variety.

The 332nd V.F.G. with elements of the 99th and 100th were flying a mission in COOOP 2 in the Lobby last night. A real "Dieby" mission made by our squadron's own "99th Flyby". His missions are known for:

1. Rich ground targets.
2. Lots of Flack
3. Plenty of live or A.I. Op. For.
4. Crazy Flack.
5. Mad Sick Flack!!!!!

Well we started the mission and I was really freaked out. I was flying a Jug on a pound mission and on "Winddancers" wing. Windy's a great gound attack flyer and good fighter. Last time I flew his wing though I failed to cover him, he got shot down by live Op. For. and I felt like **** afterwards for days.

So here we are last night in essentially the same position. Jugs, ground mission and it's populated by live OP. For. with strange markings in front of their names like "JG" etc.. I wasn't feeling good. Well I manage to get off the deck without crashing on the runway like I did the mission before. Got to the target without getting jumped. Dumped my eggs, missed everything and rocketed target with the same effect.

I was flying pretty good formation but I could hear on comms that our top cover was getting lit up but holding it's own against 109, 110's and 190's. With this in mind Dancer, strike lead, with me, Pappy and Pingu in tow decided it was time to head for home. We'd just nosed over the line into friendly when we get's jumped.

I'm on Dancer's 6 and covering him as he goes after an ememy plane I'm trying to keep an eye on my own butt as well. When Pappy calls for help, Dancer tells me to help out. I do and manage to fire till the 109's engine quits and he hits the deck. Now I'm catching lead from two other 109's and so's Dancer.

I'm determined to do a better job as wingman this time so I keep pulling in a tigh right hand turn until I'm on both their 6's and spray a couple of rounds in the 109's direction. He breaks off and turns left. I'm close enough now to have a fair chance of hitting him if I deflection shoot as Bearcats' been desperately trying to teach me. The bogey disappears beneath my nose. I fire I think I get some hits cause he quits turning and tries to extend away... I drop behind and fire again. He falls into a shallow left hand dive and crashes...

Next thing I know I see "~S~ Worf101" on my screen and I almost faint. I'd forgotten that this was a real live human flying for his life that I downed not some computer genreated foo fighter. I was so elated.. I almost crashed but Patches and Bearcat brought me back to reality by reminding me that Pingu was still engaged with the enemy.

I then returned to my sense and teamed with Pingu to clear the skies of the Luftwaffe. We headed for home wherein I tried to make my first landing in a jug.. didn't make it. Died on the runway. But I was still quite happy because..

As Dancer told me:
1. I covered my wing leader and he made it home alive.
2. I helped 3 different Squaddies and saved 2 out of three.
3. I flew with discipline.

I've never been more happy in life. I still can't take off or land with ease. I'm still a lousy bomber and less than fair dog fighter but by God I love this game. Thanks Redtails Pingu, Bolecke Billfish and all you virtual pilots out there that fill this amazing world.

Worf101 99th Pursuit Squadron, 332nd Volunteer Fighter Group, Virtual Tuskegee Airmen "Spit Fire".

Oh my first online kill.... I was flying a Fw-190, CaptainAmerica was flying an La-5FN. We dogfought for about 25 minutes, burning up a lot of our fuel supply. I ripped into him with a 2 second burst and he went down, but I almost didn't get the shot.

That was in the first version of FB, when P-40's exploded at 520 kph and I-16's were invincible. I had played mostly offline in the original IL2, it was all my PC could support. I guess the training paid off.

And P1ngu, don't say that, Wingies don't always die, it's just that they have a 2% chance of surviving. Seriously though, great job on watching your wingy. I always feel bad if my wingy is downed, it means I didn't do my job. I was very proud recently, as I was flying an escort mission for some B-17's in a 47 and shredded two 109's and one 190 to pieces. I also damaged a Bf-110 and made him break off.

Congrats Worf!!!

Good write up and thanks for taking the time to do it. There are many, many good folks here which is certainly one of the best parts about the game.

As you also denote in your post, even more than my first kill, I remember most the good folks that helped me learn the basics and more.....many with whom I still fly and have become good friends.

I would imagine that it won't be long before you'll be helping the next guy who comes along in the same manner.

In the meantime, I hope you'll continue to have fun in-game as well as with your other love (music)....excellent stuff.

When I saw the title I thought:
some Korean nutcase probably somehow killed someone through World of Warcraft http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Anyway, congrats Worfster http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif.

Good on ya, mate!

My only online victory was when a La-5/7 I was chasing crashed into a lake trying to evade me two seconds before he was avenged by by another La-5/7.

Good story and Congrats S!

I don't remember mine, but I'm sure it was in CFS.

But I do remember my first Online kill in IL2, I was over the circle islands fying a Bf109, it was a low altitude turn fight, against another 109 in an open plane class Dogfight server.

Got my first "live" kill about 4 days ago. Flying FW190A8 vs. P47D-? My wingman was about to take it from the 4x4 .50's, I BnZ the 47 just in time to save my wingman. Got my second kill shortly after flying my fav. ride, the P-38L. Got shot down twice that day though, so I ended up doing 40 pushups http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

i very well remember my 1st online kill under FR conditions. virtual pilots server flying a I153 vs a BF109G6 and i still keep the NTRK of this flight! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Yes that was a cool mission Worf..Unfortunately i only watched most of it from the ground after an enemy AI 190 spit at me and hit my engine, oil all over canopy then i glided to the ground tumbling end over end and walked away to sit in the tall grass and have a few cold ones. Listening to the whole thing on comms was great while watching each player in spectator mode http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif..Congrats on ya first kill brohttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
