Where do I get rid of the triangle? I know this is probably done in the conf.ini file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I want the thing gone too. I hope that someone shows us the way, but I fear it cannot be done.

No, I often fly in rooms where the triangle is transparent. This is a good step towards going full real. I allmost got the nipple out of my mouth. Just waiting on Track IR. :-)

Ha ha. I know you are just being funny, but just in case, the one that goes around a padlocked target. And . . . if you are saying that yours is truly gone, then pleeeeeeeze tell us what magic spell will make it go away.

In your controls section there is a function called "toggle icon types" or some such, map it to a key and you can change the triangle or even get rid of it completely.

Note that it will also get rid of any icon info as well.

Best solution?...fly in a room that is closer to full real and BINGO! it'll be gone. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I dont fly with Icons on so that is not an issue. Someone has the right answer Hang in there man....

It's not icons related Maico, it cycles through 4 settings: full icons, range/name, range only and no icons at all. The first 3 do not apply to a no icons game but the last setting will turn off even the green triangle in a full real + padlock setting. If you don't believe me, just try it.

I've never flown with padlocking on. It adds a bit more realism.

No it doesn't. It just adds more difficulty. We must be careful not to get the two confused.

EDIT - now repeat endless argument about padlock /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Jet Buff, My apoligies Sir. This was right. I got rid of the Green triangle for me. However I asked the wrong question. Please be patient with me. I ride the short bus.
How do I do this as a server. Aviar did this for some time. In his server the Triangle was transparent. Sometimes you could barely make out the outline but most of the time its like it was not even there. Thanks for the first tip.

Don't use padlock. Instant no triangle.

without being able to set padlock distances, PL is very lame being able to pl an enemy before you even can see them on 1280x with full visability. It is ridiculous and takes away from the realism in my opinion, also that it stays locked halfway thru clouds

No worries Maico. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

To achieve the latter you must have icons enabled and set to really short distances. This is done via an in-game console command that can be simplified with an rcu entry like so:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">@set fast off
@set echo on
@set alias on
@set history 20
@file dosturmolog

@alias a alias
@a h history
@a s show

@a fon fps START SHOW
@a foff fps STOP

//this is the important part (don't insert this line!)
@a fr mp_dotrange FRIENDLY COLOR .005 DOT 15 RANGE 3.5 TYPE .005 ID .3 NAME .2
@a fo mp_dotrange FOE COLOR .005 DOT 15 RANGE 3.5 TYPE .005 ID .005 NAME .005
@a setIcons fr fo
@a d mp_dotrange DEFAULT
</pre>

The setting that appears to control the triangle directly seems to be the range setting - the triangle will be semi-transparent for the first 1km or so, e.g. if you set range to 2km then it will be semi-transparent from 2 - 1 km. The 0.005 settings above are for 5m because 0 is not an acceptable setting. However, the end result is the same, you won't see the affected icon info unless the other plane is within 5m of yours, i.e., you're already dead! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

To use, insert your modified version of the above snippet into your "rcu" file under FB's root directory (use notepad to edit and be careful to save without an extension) and type in ">setIcons" in the command console. You (or anyone on the server actually) can type ">mp_dotrange" to confirm your settings. I hope I haven't messed up the capitalization of the latter but it's been a while since I've used icons.

Cheers,

Not reading FAQ's is just lazy on my part. I read this again last night and came up with this mp_dotrange stuff. I set all to 0.05 and Wahla! The Avocado Triangle of Noobdom is gone. BTW thanks for the other tip(toggle Icons) now I can play my QMB's with no Neon Avocado ring.
Say goodby Neon ring...

Say goodby lol

Thanks Jetbuff

I never use padlock. I fly with my left hand on my mouse to look around and my right hand on my joystick. It's almost like TrackIR.

I just tried it out. Thank you, very much, its just what I always wanted. I don't fly with icons on either, so it doesn't matter about that.

And, Buzz, Oleg flies using padlock, and the WWII Pilots that he has had to test IL2 agree that this is more a realistic way to fly due to the limitations of the flat monitor screen. I find it interesting that "full real" in IL2/FB is actually more difficult than what it was in the truly full-real world. (Situational Awareness, aquiring targets, etc . . . ) If only the pilots of WWII had been able to train using FB, eh? It would have been a great secret training weapon.
Salute!!

Ah, BuzzU is harmless, just give him a peach. OTOH, have either of you met Stigler? Now there's a realism nut! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
