I know the Gramophone doesn't come with any music for license reasons, but now does one use it in game? Do we have to drag files to a directory where it reads them? Do we have to put an audio CD in the Installation Drive?

Not a big deal but hardly documented.

Move or copy MP3 files into
silent hunter 3\data\sound\gramaphone . This is where my files are and it works . When you start the game in options \ sound options i think i had to tick the music option at the top.

Went out an snagged me a copy of Tipperary in mp3 and just dropped it in the sound directory. Works like a charm. Now I'm off to gather me up a collection of der top tunes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

look on the web and you'll find many Kriegsmarine songs such as 'Torpodo Los!' and 'Engerland' (my fav)...
(these are genuine Kriegsmarine songs from that era.

When I get some time (possibly later today or over the weekend) I'll make a mod with some nice authentic tunes from the period. Later I hope to make mods for the gramophone so that people can install different files for certain patrol dates that will include the latest radio news show (in German of course) so that players can really get a sense of the period.

If you have a copy of Aces of the Deep or other sub game, you may be able to extract the waves from that, then convert if needed.

I will try it later when I get home and update ya. I still have copies of most my games from 80s and up, and i know AOD has awesome sound files.

I Have the DOS version of AOD and I thought of lifting the tunes from that but they are of course good old midi style and not MP3 and actually sound quite obviously "computer generated" (and dated), ie like the old "Lemmings" theme. But I really did like the AOD theme, does anyone know was this a real piece from '40's Germany and does anyone remember what it was called so I can hunt for an orchestral version in MP3?

I find modern music is also a rather oddly appealing combo.

Anyway, watch out if you uninstall the game it deletes this folder and you'll lose any mp3s in it.

I just found this URL with lots and lots of U Boat music MP3's. They download with file extension "mpga" but change the extension to mp3 and they work OK with media player. I'm just about to try it in the game. Here's the link:

@Charlie901: Go to the Sonar&Radio Room and click on the Radio Officer. One of the buttons that appear in the bottom left corner opens the Gramophone controls. Enjoy...

I still have AotD in it's box, with all printed material. It's at my Dad's but I'll dig it out and see. That March was great!
