Seven video game companies, including Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news), Eidos Plc (EID.L) and Ubi Soft Entertainment (UBIP.PA), have qualified to bid in the auction for the assets of bankrupt publisher 3DO Co. (Other OTC:THDOQ - news), according to court papers filed on Thursday.

Oh thats a shame... 3DO was one of the better game studios... You may remember the excellent 'heroes of might & magic' series made by 3dO, amongst other things..

let us hope microsoft dont get their grubby hands on them.

Actually, one of the techniques of big business is to artificially inflate the value of an acquisition by creating a bidding war and then let your competition by the lemon...

I had a 3DO console (I think thats what it was)

It used CD's and was just before Playstation, after Genesis

I remember playing golf on it and Final Fantasy V (?) something like that.

Yeah acutually 3D0 just pumped out about 3 add-ons for Heroes of Might and Magic 3 right before folding. Was looking forward to a graphically improved #4.

Just business, they come and go. Even with a good product or developer, Its easy for someone to screw up a good company.

Best title for the 3DO was Road Rash, and RBJ I'm with you here, it was way ahead of it's time. Used cd's before any other console, and graphics were great (for the time).
