One can wonder if you ever danced to a 80s song...

For those critical younger knowit alls...
If you have a propper look at the music scene from '75-'85 you'll notice a incredible music variety that burst onto the world scene, in part thanks to Virgin Records. You'll also notice that these bands nearly all wrote and played their own music. A lot of it was original stuff.

They are very few of these type of people/bands today and the variety has all but gone. This is in part the record companies fault as they saw easy money in this type of ... well ... noise ?

But this is exactly what my father said to me, so it must depend on the trash that's forced down one's ear http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif - This is decent music !! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

nearly all bands write their own music nowadays, it's only boybands and "artists" like britney spears who don't. and if not writing your own songs is somehow an indication of lack of talent then Elvis was the most untalented poser ever. I'm sure you agree.

and as far as variety goes, well I guess if pop radio is all you listen to then that might be true.

also I find it funny that someone who likes overly loud, badly mixed drum machines and horrible synths and fake pianos, would call anything noise.

the 80's was the worst decade for music, full stop. and no I have never danced to an 80's tune, but neither has anyone else. what they called dancing back then was more like epileptic seizures.

the 80's were the epitome of low budget recordings, one hit wonders and sappy chick songs, even worse than the mid 90's techno boom.

Pop music isn't worth arguing about.

+1.

The stuff my stepdaughter listens to has some of the same 'sounds' that originated in the 80's. The only amusement I get out of it is thinking to myself how some of the pop bands rip off stuff and call it new. But then it's always been that way to some extent.

I'd prefer a great performance of Chopin myself these days, or Dave Brubeck and the like.
