View Full Version : PoP used to be awsome...

but that was back in the day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

forgotten sands feels like they realized the last PoP game wasn't all that great and tried desperately to go "back to the roots".

doesn't really work for me though. can't stop comparing forgotten sands to the earlier titles while playing it - WW and T2T were just so much better and more fun to play than this one. those games felt kind of original or dare i say "authentic".

the first thing that bothers me about forgotten sands is that the prince looks like he's david hasselhoff or something. then there's the lack of blood. i mean, i'm slaughtering hordes of enemies, but there's no blood at all. not even the tiniest drop. bodies disappear immediately - and i mean disappear... they just vanish into nothing. immediately. or maybe that's just 'cause i'm in germany? comments on that please.

IMHO forgotten sands is basically a failed attempt at regaining former glory. it's still far from being a lousy game - but it's also miles away from it's predecessors. just my two cents.

What the two people before me said.

Also, don't judge games by the amounts of blood in them. Blood doesn't make for a good game. It's just a selling point for teenagers.

Absence of blood = return to its roots.

But it really makes sense, how can sand monsters have blood?

Funny funny. I agree, blood is useless, but please don't say it's a return to its roots. It might be for SoT but definitely not for PoP 89.
Oh, and SoT had blood, minimal, but it still had.

I like the ammount of blood present in WW, but I also like the flashy lights from SoT and T2T.

granted, poor choice of words. by "roots" i meant WW and T2T - not the original 2D PoP, obviously.

and it's not just "the blood", it's the darker, grimier atmosphere that at least WW had.

TFS is going back to Sands of Time roots, so it's pretty much like Sands of Time, with the only difference that Sands of Time is better.

And it isn't full of bugs and glitches either. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

The beginning sections of The Forgotten Sands 360/PS3/PC should have had blood and non-disappearing bodies. After Solomon's Army is unleashed, however, it makes absolute sense for the enemies to not shed blood (they are completely made of sand), however the Prince still should have shedded blood. I'm not saying exorbitant amounts of gushing blood from limbs like Warrior Within, but just a little whenever he gets hit.

Also makes sense for bodies to disappear, too, though; after Solomon's Army is unleashed. Again, these enemies dissolve into orbs of sand and are absorbed by Malik or the Prince, so that makes sense. Just look at Ratash (SPOILER) being absorbed by Malik after they tag-team him. His body is completely absorbed by Malik, in a cinematic fashion. Same concept with regular enemies, just on a smaller scale (SPOILER DONE). At the end of Forgotten Sands DS, the Prince throws the dead Razia off the top of a tower. She hits the bottom, and dissolves into sand. She was a Sand-manipulating Djinn, just as Ratash and his minions are, so again, if she dissolves, it makes even more sense they do.

As for what you're saying, I agree. The Forgotten Sands was a nice step up in platforming, but still radically different (and inferior to) the orignal Sands of Time trilogy in that it had different subtleties; the Prince had a slower general moving speed, he adopted some platforming mannerisms of the 2008 Prince, it just didn't feel as good as the original trilogy did, gameplay-wise. The puzzles were less involved, the lack of combat difficulty rendered the health bar useless, the Prince wasn't totally captured correctly, and the story sucked.
