8/10

Lowest marks going to the graphics; 7/10

The review seems contradictory. The reviewer says that the graphics are one of the high points but it gets the lowest marks.

I'd love to hear the reasoning behind that.

Test System only utilised a 9800XT and a AMD 3400+ - Gee I hope my system can workup a mild sweat.

This Games Graphics - Resolution Range etc just dont seem FUTURE Proof.

They also said that people may have to adjust the AA/AF levels to reach a compromise with regards to performance/graphics.

I also noticed that they got a little crazy with the "sharpen" filter in Photoshop. Their screens look like ****.

Well, I don't read french but I did see they have the other tutorial videos http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Convoy attack and Firing Torpedos.

Unfortunately they all come in one big file with the tuts we've already got and that file weighs in at 220mb.
No prob for me, (luckily) took only 12 minutes.

The new tuts are pretty good for us starving for new info though and if you have the bandwidth it's definately worth the download http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Charos I like when you said ONLY a 9800XT and an AMD 3400+ !

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well they compare the ships details with "Pacific Fighters" ships details and they said they could be better ?! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Anyway, the link to the video is 218Mb, seems like we have all the tutorials videos here ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The odd thing is that it looks like the reviewer has quite high regards to SHII, especially compared too SHII. Like SHII was great, and because SHIII is also great, fans of the former one should also like the new one.

But the only good things I really enjoyed in this review is the part about the manual, where the guy says that this is the type of good manual that makes newbies easely understand the user-friendly interface, and therefor easier for newbies to immerse themselves in the game.

And (following that same line of thoughts) Newbies should enjoy this game a lot too, first because of the graphics, and second because of the easy interface and arcade setings that make this game easely playable, even for people with not much sim experience

And great music.

My impression on the review: Das Boot. It feels like that even if you are not a simer, you can still play the game and recreate the same feeling as when watching the movie Das Boot, without too much hasle. And maybe this could be the selling point of the game.

I've allready bought the game and am an experience simer since SH1, but I think this is the kind of reviews that could sell the game to the masses, and so if not very detailed or usefull for us lurkers, it should, especially with all the tutorial videos available, be quite a convincing review for the average gamer.

Wow... coffee rush, long text.

HEHE - its true though the 9800XT is over 1.5 Years old from Memory (I got my 9700 when it came out about October 2002).

Im just hopeing my AMD 4000+ and X800XT Platinum edition gets to have a workout, not to mention the system I will be playing SH3 on in 3 Years time.

The 9800XT pretty much whoops on the 9800 Pro and a lot of people still use Pros.

Not to mention, if you notice in the review, the reviewer states that you may have to turn change the FSAA and AF settings in order to get a good balance between performance/graphics. At least if I read it right. His machine isn't exactly a slouch at all either.

The X800XT has nearly double the Grunt of a 9800XT - that Includes ANISO & FSAA.

At this point - especially at 1024*768 (which equates to being CPU limited or not) im not seeing where the system stress is going to come from.

One of the first things I usally do is Benchmark test a new game to adjust settings.

I'm not talking about the X800XT PE, hence the reason I didn't mention it. The 9800XT is still quite a bit faster then a 9800 PRO.

The X800XT PE really bears no relevance to this conversation as that is not what is in the average computer.

Believe it or not, your computer prob. couldn't max out the FSAA and AF in LOMAC with decent performance (of course that is all relative to what you consider to be "acceptable" performance). There are people running more then what you have and they still can't max out graphics with great performance. Why? Bad coding more then likely, we'll just have to wait and see how SHIII is (though I am confident it will run quite a bit better then LOMAC...at least I hope, LOL).

The water is what will stress peoples computers the most. It is dynamic/moving and therefore takes quite a bit of processor time. Not to mention, the sub models and whatnot appear to be very high poly, add into that a dynamic campaign and you can really stress a system when you have the grahpics options maxed out. I have a feeling there is a reason the game is limited to 1024x768. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I test games the same way you do when I purchase them. Nothing I hate more then having to go back to messing with settings later.

P.S. You don't have to explain to me about graphics cards and whatnot...I probably know more then most. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I own LOMAC - Not even NORAD has enough Computing Power to Run it acceptably - LOMAC engine design is an Abortion plane and Simple. There is no Scaleable settings or Dynamic engine (LOD) control.

I didnt say you were talking about the X800XT PE - did I?

IL2/PF water looks better set to 0 in the Conf.ini file than 1 or 2 as its faster. It looks like Glass otherwise.

I play IL2 at 1200*1000 with, 4*FSAA and 4*Anistropic everything else maxed except water which I explained before.

I will be eager to post back with what performance I get out of SH3 - I would of expected being only able to play a new title like this on medium settings just like Oleg Maddox's BOB when it arrives.

"NORAD" - LOL

Yeah, the water is the only thing I can see seriously testing peoples computers.

I am eager to see the performance I get on my machine variations. I'm not to worried though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If your machine can't max out SHIII's graphics thne there is a SERIOUS coding isse. LOL
