View Full Version : So, about this "Noob.0" thing

Citizen War

Hey everyone. I was going for some regular manhunt games last week when I noticed that I couldn't pick the 3.0 characters. So I asked some of the people running with me in my group and they said "oh, we're running Noob.0 and going after smurfs." Ran into plenty of other grand masters that night. Since then, people keep inviting me to parties with Noob.0. Figured out what "smurfs" are, too.

I can understand running DLC 2.0 because you need a game and can't find people in 3.0. But I personally think that the Noob.0 thing (running no DLC on) is completely dishonorable and ridiculous.

Templar Scores generally show the best 3 scores that you can get against people that can't find the "Y" button. So I think that they're funny and don't say that much anyway. Don't mind getting scores to keep that little symbol next to my name. But really, it has gotten old.

Not only that, but repeatedly stunning "smurfs" that just got the game is really going to turn off people that might increase our game's population. Plus, you're turning them off of grabbing the DLC. Combine that with recent matchmaking issues and it's giving new players a crappy first experience.

Do you all agree with me?

I do.

But I enjoy playing .0 with smurfs when I'm bored of playing seriously and want to just have a bit of fun.

For going for my templar grade scores, I always use 2.0.

It's almost got to the stage now where it doesn't matter anyway, so many people have cottoned on now so there's often more Grandmasters than Smurfs.

Before long 3.0 Will be the new Smurf.0

When I was just starting out, I always loved seeing level 50s and having to really think about what I was doing. Could just be me, but I would have loved, and in fact still love, to play against a really good team. I only really play manhunt without DLC to alleviate stress- scoring more in the defensive round (without stunlocking) than the entire other team combined is actually quite satisfying.

I should point out that this is never something I'd be willing to do with more than one friend, except maybe for pure curiosity of how many points we could get.

Personally I prefer Grandmaster lobbies. More challenging and makes good scores more satisfying. And they usually stay. It doesn't take stunlocking for me to make new players leave the game. When they realise I actually defend myself and that I have 4 kills against their 8 and many more points, they go "Screw this" and leave, often ending the session from too few players. It is hilarious watching them lie there without noticing the desynch button though...

I ended up in a 2v4 game of escort once. Me and a random vs 4 Grandmasters with mics. I stuck with it and though we lost (It was 2v4 the whole match) it was one of the most fun games I'd had in a while. One also said "Holy ****, Shrapnel got 14 kills!". xD I enjoy outsmarting good opponents more than pwning newbz, though with matchmaking these days there's often little choice.

Same thing on PSN, huh?

I miss old 4v4 ranked matches vs. grandmasters that had names that you'd recognize.

I only play without DLC when I'm bored. I did get 10k from a couple of matches but it's nothing I can't get in a 3.0 too. The only difference between them is that whereas in 3.0 you tend to get two 5k rounds or a 6k and a 4k, in DLC off you need about 7k in the offense to break 10k since your team mates will abandon you at every opportunity in the defense round.

It is however a great place to do your knives and gun challenges since everyone thinks that being able to run really fast is the best thing ever.

Nothing beats winning a match against an organised team with a bunch of randoms on your side though, whatever DLC you're on. It always feels good. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Don't do it, don't think it's a good idea.

If I was in a game where people were doing this, I'd exclusively hunt my friends, and do my best to grief them, turn it into a joke match instead of a noob-hunting session.

Probably by getting a chase Poison or going SuperPRO on them.

Exactly! I completely agree, this is what should be happening on smurf.0 games. I think me and Amigo played one not long ago with a couple of others, and literally spent it helping out the smurfs on the opposing team! Super pro chase/focus/gun shots and all :-)

After playing without a choice of 3.0 or not, I actually QUIT Assassin's Creed until I got 3.0 because there was absolutely NO competition and I wanted to cry.

Exploiting that does NOT get any approval points form me. Tsk.

It does.

Gets you 100 points (chase pts), hence the superpro affilation.

I have the .0 as i dont have enough memory space to download the other maps and the DLC.
That doesnt mean me or other people with the original game cant play properly so yeah i think they are 'ridiculous'.

They're called smurfs because their templar ranks are usually the blue dots, if that.

Oh, I did read about "smurfs" but had no idea what you guys were talking about. I guess this is one of the reasons why it was hard to get ranked matches in 3.0... lots of people grieving the newbies. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

.... Wh... What? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif I will avenge my fallen brothers!

But seriously, it's a sad thing. And... not productive at all. All it does is push you up on the TS leaderboards, which I can say fairly confidently say nobody really cares about when it comes to other people. All this does is, like you said, push people away, and maybe helps fulfil some poor boy's superiority complex.

I turn to 2.0 mostly when it's impossible to find a match on 3.0. That being said, sometimes in playing 2.0, you run into matches that make you feel like a God - even when you're perfectly aware that you shouldn't.

By the way, CrazyShrapnel, I'm 99.9% sure I was one of the people you played in that 2v4. Everybody on my side had mad respect for you after that game, for sure. I would play with/against you any time.

there have been times in game where we say to eachother
"this guy is never gonna play this game again after what we just did"

i do feel kinda bad about it but they should stay away from ranked matches until they at least have the hang of the basics.

That just shows you how screwed up match making is. They shouldn't have to avoid ranked to not get totally pawned by people who have way more experience then them.

I guess you could argue that the smurfs should be going into in player matches. I never really did player matches myself during the first month or two.

Can you still get matches there?

On the hints it actually tells you that now since you've reached higher levels, you can take on the best players in Ranked games.

And definitely Player games are really active specially with Assassinate. I got 2 10k last week there.

CrazyShrapnel

I only started playing ranked matches around the late 30s/early 40s. I levelled mostly on player matches as I thought ranked would have tough opponents. I assumed there would be loads more skilled players in ranked, that I would get owned and that my failures would be recorded in some rank related kind of way. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif By the way... does choosing player match sometimes throw you into ranked matches? Or could that have just been me using play now and not remembering? (Player matches show levels, ranked show ranks)
