I was in an online game and a guy, flying a 109, was complaining that the game setting disabled cem and he couldn't outrun the spit. Every 109 I've encountered could easily outrun the Spit I was in. So I guess they were using cem. I've played with it. Don't seem to know what I was doing because juggling the prop pitch in the Spit didn't do anything while jacking with it in the 109 allowed me to fry engines left and right. I've read the man. on cem which says increasing pitch gives you more bite but obviously I don't know how to do it properly and to my advantage. I have keys set to increase and decrease the pitch but don't mess with it because it aint doing nothing positive for me. Can someone please tell me how to use it because when I was using the 109 Spits had no problem catching me.

first issue AI planes are set up perfectly as the computer controls them. Your plane is controlled by you. Second issue, a spitfire is faster than a 109. check out the speeds.

theeees is what I do.
Find the manifold pressure (MP) dial. On it you'll find markings which indicate max limits.
Set prop pitch to 100% and adjust your throttle until the MP marker is on the max point.
Reduce prop pitch and increase throttle until you cannot adjust either any further.

When flying high, you now have to include your fuel mixture. I've forgotten how to do this,
but I think the higher you go the leaner (less fuel) you mix has to be.
If your plane has turbo-chargers, you'll have to make allowances for this too.

Do a search for CEM here as there is a whole document built up by the community - it's a good read.

Well, below 20,000', if I'm reading Hardball's specs right, the 109 is faster than the Spit. We do most our fighting way below that alt. I don't know about AI performance but humans in a 109 can catch me and outrun me in a Spit. So I guess my question stands...how do I use it?

CEM by Vulgar @ M4T (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=249)

Because the 109s have fully manual pitch it is easier to over rev and fry the engine.. Most planes have a CSP.. (Constant Speed Prop) but you can still squeeze a bit more speed out of the plane. Make sure you are trimmed right.

If you're flying a Bf109K-4 there is no reason for a Spitfire to catch you in level flight. Anything outside of that requires tactics. Manual prop pitch might help a bit with the 109 and not at all with the Spitfire...what the guy was probably complaining about was the nerfing of the exploit where you could go faster by rapidly switching between low and high pitch.

Ok guys. Thanks for the answer. The 109 is just plain faster than a spit and now I don't see any real reason to mess with prop pitch. Besides running the pitch in automatic always seemed to work just fine for me. As far as playing that trick of jumping between high and low pitch I aint gonna bother. Like I don't bother hitting print screen. If I can't beat the bloke fair and square thru skill and tactics and knowing my bird just aint no point in playing. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
