Hi guys what are some of your favourite missions/campaigns in the game? Most of us must only ever try a fraction of them (300 in Fall Blau alone)I like the Battle over Europe Battle of Britain ones. Also when Itry to download other peoples missions I get some error message about not being able to read them with a red/white/blue icon .Is this because I lack some 'Adobe Acrobat'style reader or something?(I dont have MS Office/Word or the like on my new reformatted Hard drive.

Odd, tell more about this error. What do you mean?

I have never downloaded a mission, but have copied some that were posted as text at this webboard.

My favorite missions came in a pack called B-17 squadron intercepts and featured two historically accurate B-17 formations. One mission had you flying an A8 against a wedge formation and the other was an Me 262 against some sort of slant formation. They were very straight forward, no take off, no landing, I think the author was just testing out the formations but they are really the most intense missions I have on my machine. I posted in the mission builder forum trying to locate the author and maybe more of his work but I've never gotten a response.

that sounds interesting..how was he able to restructure the formations of AI flights I wonder...?

Heywood:

Two ways I've been able to do it. The first is to fly the formations straight north-south or east west, so you can use the grid lines to get the A/C placed correctly, then you place only one plane per flight and place them one at a time in V's of three, low, med hig squadron, etc. You can place IP waypoints, but it does get a little tedious and tricky if you put in too many.

The other is apparently due to Oleg. If you do the same procedure and put 3 planes in each flight, after a few minutes they spread out from slnt to the vic. An earlier patch allowed that for the Japanese planes--I guess this had already been modeled for US planes in FB or AEP???

I've got several B24 and B17 missions if you or Bigbear or anyone would like me to email them. They are not set up for full mission with mission completion, T/O and landing, etc. They are really only test missions and for capturing film footage for future movies, if I ever get the time to learn that art. But one has three bomb groups (I'll have to check--I know I deleted some cause they were too unwieldy), lots of flak--one has I believe 64 88's around the target (Frankurt)--and usually a couple of flights of 190's, 109's and/or 110's, and sometimes the Little Friends are along as well. I even have a Ploesti run.

That would be great. I'll send you a PT with an e-mail address. Thanks.

Saunders, have you tried setting bomber flights to escort bomber flights? They all drop bombs at the same time (level bombers) and attack planes begin their run.

Try this for me...mission text on page 2 of bomber escort thread...for Merged FB+PF...

The nice thing here is its easy to make massive bomber formations join into formation after takeoff, even from different airfields and at different spawn times. The trick is making sure the target flight is within 7km visual range of escorting flights while following a escort waypoint (which can be hundreds of km away doesn't matter). I do this by having the leading flight fly to the rear of the airfield (away from mission target) and turn back, picking up all following flights as they pass within 7km range.

The most simple method is setting trailing flights to escort the leading flight out in front, but this causes some collisions, but there are other combinations of escort SETS that work flawlessly -- formation leader, sub~leaders that follow leader, sub~sub~leaders that follow sub~leaders, etc...

There appears to be no limit to the size of a formation made of escort sets, and best of all only the leading flight's waypoints matter and all others can be tucked away in a corner of the map or entirely ommited except for the first two waypoints -- the takeoff and ESCORT targeting waypoints. The formation is essentially one object.

BigBear...you've got mail.

Lex_Luther: I scour these boards daily and read that thread before. Sounds like a very nifty way to create missions, and I will try it out tomorrow for my next Russian Front mission--it sounds like it's just what the doctor ordered for a relentless IL4 stream over the Reich. I'll report back tomorrow night, Sir! But for US Daylight raids, I like to have a nice group/division wing formation all in their pretty lil' boxes(well, at least until the flak gets through shredding them!)

Thanks, I'm going to check out right now. I'm a little bleary eyed and hung over so this should be an experience.

Very cool mission, you should definitely do more, I like your intercept mission and the others I have better than 99% of the full blown missions I've played. They're fram rate killers but on the right rig they're a joy to play. I must say I was a bit confused at first, I though I was supposed to be flying a B-25, totall surprised when I found myself in a Focke Wulf intercepting B-17s http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Awesome mission, would love to see more, thanks again.

Glad you liked them, Bigbear. In one you're in a 190 and another in a 109, both going after American Heavies. The Ploesti raid is the one in which you are in a B25 so that you can ride along in the midst of the 24's and watch the action. I did that so I could
"film" the action looking out the gun positions and greenhouse and fool the audience into thinking it was taken from a B24.

I think I only ended up with one of the three then.
