I have this on my Christmas list - which one should I ask for? I know that 3 is out but is it any better than 1 or 2? I want the one that will be the most reliable and trouble-free. Will the coupon that came with PF be good for all of them? Thanks.

The TIR3 Pro is the way to go. They will all work, but the 3 pro is noticeably better.

Spoken of true TIR ignorance. I've nothing against you Simjock, but it's apparent you've never tried/used one for any length of time and you assume there is something more useful that he could spend his money on.

Why don't you help me out...I have a P4 3.4, 1 gig Low-latency Corsair, 6800 Ultra and a Audigy 2 ZS...where should I spend my next Franklin?

A TIR fits nicely and to assume that the original poster isn't able to make his own assessment of his needs and desires is simply rude.

I like TIR and use it exclusively now, but I wasn't sold initially either...it took time. Mostly because I'm not a fanboi nor can I be easily led, but rather, I want to know that both my financial as well as time investments are giving me the largest return on them respectively.

Here's an idea, why not let me send you one and if after 2 weeks you don't like it, you can post why based on experience and send it back to me? If you like it, you keep it and post here your findings.

Tir3 PRO

be sure http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

wonderful device

sold my Tir1 to update to a Tir3 PRO and have never looked back .. apparently there is even new software coming out to help the odd person that can never get rid of head jitters (amphetamine users?) and hold their head still so getting better and better

Like most responses, I'd go for the Pro, like Galway said there's new software coming out in December.

I'd disregard the typical narcissistic response that you usually see in a thread where a question like yours is posed.

Not just refresh rate .. the 3PRO is also far better at ignoring extraneous light sources like sunlit windows .. with my TiR1 it was barely usable in daylight hours unless I drew the curtains .. the 3PRo is fine even on a sunny day

I'm not narcissistic. Really. I purchaed a Track IR when they first came out because it looked like the latest greatest thing for flight sims, and I wanted to be on top of all new latest and greatest things in flight sims.

I spent two weeks adjusting the thing. Every time something bumped my desk like a vacume, the cat, or the kids the whole rig was thrown out of wack.
I ended spending more time playing with the Track IR then I did playing my sims.

IMOH the system is not stable enough to use. And I really don't like bobing and weaving my head to control the view.
The top hat is simple, and fast, and a quik hand can utilze both keyboard and mouse.

I have always argued that the full screen hud(cockpit off) is great way to enhance a players perspective on a square monitor, and most people who prefer (cockpit on) are track IR users.
Theres no differance, you supliment one cruch for another.
In my expieriance Track IR is a hastle, and desk clutter I don't need, and I honestly would not recomend it to anyone else.

I know some folks love TrackIR, and hate hearing that some one else thinks its bad. But this is an open and fair forum, and have stated my honest opinion.

I purchased a TrackIR 2 and found it a hassle as well. But I may have been doing it wrong. I was curious how you guys set up the darn thing. I washaving to turn my head 90 degrees to the left or right to see over my shoulders in game and that makes it hard to see the screen. Also when I was at those limits it would get stuck and then snap back to some random place. What was I doing wrong?

The $30 coupon that comes with Pacific Fighters is good for TrackIR 3 Pro version only. It will not work for any other version.

I used trackIR 1 to great effect. It's true it took some time getting it set up properly, but once you do, it drastically imporoves the game on several levels. I was very happy with my TIR1 until I tried my friends TIR2. It was a HUGE improvement which is why I upgraded to TIR3 Pro. Patiently awaiting it's arrival...

It's a lot of money but if you fly regularly it is well worth the investment.

Funny how its trash..but trash that gives you as much of an advantage as turning off the cockpit...

I got mine 2 days ago and I am still in the learning curve for sure. The imersiveness is fantastic, the shooting is challenging. I dont know why but lots of time as I approach to shoot the sight seems a bit off kilter wich makes deflection shooting hard.
I also seem to get stuck not looking forward at times. Like if I look real hard over my left shoulder the center doesnt return but locks over left so if I want to look straight ahead I have to look 1/4 right and if I want to look right I have to twist my head off right...
Like I said just getting it figured out. But
the tracking and stuff is fine..just need to find a way to ensure it stays in calibration without having to f12 recenter all the time.

You might want to up the acceleration in the profile so you are not turning your head as far when you look back. Soft profiles are good when learning but not necessary once you get the knack of it.

Some people actually find moving their head sideways is better than turning it but I find that counterintuitive.

I suspect what is happening is when you face forward again you have changed position and your head has moved slightly to one side .. instead of turning to re-center just adjust how you are sitting so your head moves sideways back to your original seating spot.

profile way to soft or you have accidently left the thing in "mouse mode" which is linear tracking

my current profile and setup requires about 3 cm movement to look on your six .. its very responsive though at those settings .. friends who have never used trackIR find it a little too fast for comfort

Nothin personal, I didn't name names http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif It was obvious you hadn't tried the latest versions, and to say to trash it without ever having tried it is, well... like me telling someone to trash a Cougar because I had a piece of junk TM stick a few years ago.

I can get up and take a whiz (until Saitek or CH starts marketing a p*ss tube), sit back down and hit a recenter button and I'm back in business. Head movement can be as limited or as much as you like, especially when using the Linda Blair fix. Sounds like you may have been using mouse emulation - I don't know that the original even had enhanced mode, and it wasn't supported in-game until Forgotten Battles.

And being a narcissist isn't bad - I'm one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Q: How many men does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: One; he just holds it and the world revolves around him.

quote:
narcissism: Freudian term, drawn from the Greek myth of Narcissus, indicating an exclusive self-absorption. In psychoanalysis, narcissism is considered a normal stage in the development of children and flight simmers. It is known as secondary narcissism when it occurs after puberty and the purchase of a HOTAS and rudder pedals, and is said to indicate a libidinal energy directed exclusively toward oneself. A degree of narcissism is considered normal, where an individual has a healthy self-regard, realistic aspirations, and begins to fly in no-padlock servers. The condition becomes pathological, and diagnosable as a personality disorder, when it significantly impairs social functioning within community fora (see RAYBAN JOCKEY). An individual with narcissistic personality disorder tends to harbor an exaggerated sense of his own self-importance and uniqueness and a disdain for TrackIR and other expensives doohickeys. He is often excessively occupied with fantasies about his own attributes and potential for success with a hat switch, and usually depends upon others for reinforcement of his self-image. A narcissist tends to have difficulties maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships, stemming largely from a lack of empathy and a propensity for taking advantage of noobs and spawning pilots in the interest of self-aggrandizement.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

posts claiming the device does not work will just start a flame war form people who know better

now there are valid reasons for some individuals not to use trackir .. some people find trackir disorienting, suffer motion sickness or just do not like it in combat .. but we are not seeing comments from those people here

You chaps that don't use trackIR don't know what you are missing.I would rather lose my joystick than tir. Those that have tried it and couldn't cope I'm sure didn't have the right profile or were using mouse simulation(which imo shouldn't be in the bloody software as it is useless and confusing).
You should check the "absolute" box and a profile such as Burnins_777 which is a very good allrounder with a nice central dead spot allowing a steady straight ahead view and a good side to side movement.
I give full credit to Burnin_777 though I have long since lost the address to his profiles.
If he reads this post I'm sure he will respond.
If not I would be happy to forward it to anyone
having trouble with tir. I truly feel sorry for those that have bought it and don't use it.You have a gem and don't know it.
Cheers, Ibis. whisper
PS. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to get used to it,if it does something is wrong with your setup.
Some in my squad were having all sorts of difficulties but once Burnins profile and with "absolute" checked they have Hallaluyer seen the light.
