I used to play that all the time on my old Amiga 500.

As far as I know, there wasn't another Pacific War sub simulator until Silent Hunter IV. We were long overdue for one. Hopefully SH-IV will be as replayable as SS2. So far, after installing TMO 1.9, I have high hopes that proves true.

Any interesting SS2 stories to share? I remember one annoying moment where I used the last of my torpedoes on a lone troop ship. However it didn't sink, and since my spacebar was busted at the time, I couldn't finish it off with the deck gun.

Khan, You bring my memories back to cruising for what seemed like weeks w/out seeing a thing! That at the time was an awesome program with awesome graphics. your story had my brother and myself rolling http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Ah, yes... I remember one or two patrols like that. NEVER choose Wake as your patrol area. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I eventually settled on the waters south of Honshu. Never a dull moment there. .....especially when you find a Task Force at night, before you're equipped with radar. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Quite so. Well, as they say, "In for a penny, in for a pound." Combat was one of the best games on the old Atari 2600. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I had Silent Service II on my PC. Great game for the time. I spend so many hours playing. Graphics were not bad for the time. I found it again after searching the world over. Downloaded it along with "Dosbox", a program for running old dos games, ran great and played the same as always. Then I found SH4 and haven't looked back. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm an old SS2 person. Along with my stepfather and brother in law. I avoided Silent Hunter because of the "sides" issue. When SH4 came out, I jumped on it. It turned out to be a great replacement for SS2.
On the story note: My stepfather, brother in law, and I one time decided to have a competition. We each had one patrol in the same area. The one who came back with the most tonnage won. I won the competition. I limped back with 99% damage, no torpedoes, and only a few rounds left in the deck gun. And my periscope was destroyed about half way through the patrol.

I spent many, many hours playing the first Silent Service on my Commodore 64. What a great game that was. All those old Microprose simulators were a blast.

I know what you mean, I had Tank Platoon 2. Although the graphics weren't great even for the time, it was a truly dynamic simulations. I honestly miss it and have never found a tank sim that was able to come up to it.

I remember a friend of mine in Florida had that game. We only played once, and had a hard time figuring it out.
