I see! The gunner catches the falling drop tanks, climbs out onto the SBD's wings, and manually attaches each tank to a hardpoint. Now that's what I call good 'ol Yankee ingenuity!

Even better is when one plane runs out of gas and the other snags it with its arrestor hook and tows them home
