I've had to do it! I put in my orders and will start picking today! (Must have had too much free time on my holidays! Is bad!)

Hopefully I'll have a reasonable PC to play for the next few years, and will have a reasonable upgrade path (For BoB) when some of the prices come down.

Here goes:
-----------
CPU: Intel E8500 dual core.
M/B: XfX 790i Ultra MB
G/C: Inno 9800GTX
RAM: 2GB corsair DDR3 1066Mhz
HDD: W/D 320GB
P-S: Thermaltake ToughPower 750W

-------

I've heard of some very good overclocking of the processor to keep me going though by the time BoB comes out I should be able to get a fast quad core cheap. should have potential for adding an extra couple of graphics cards, more/faster RAM latter.

All the rest will be recycled from my old PC.

Anyway! It's too late to change my mind, they've all ready got most of my money!

Oh and I'll be running XP Pro for the moment with intention of going up to Vista at a later date! (When I need it to play a game!)
Now just have to figure out how to break the news to my wife! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'll try that!

At the moment I'm hiding in my room trying to get the thing up and runing. I get a stop error(pci.exe) when I'm installing windows.

I've got an old version of XP so apparently I need to slipstream service pack 2 into my install. (following the instructions at the moment) See how that goes!

Cheers!

Lookin good, but my only question is, why not go with the 1KW power supply?

It may be more than you need, but i know that id rather be safe than sorry.

Well what are you going to get for video? You failed to mention that part. And are you going with single card ( I'd think not single ) dual SLI or triple SLI??

By the way, this is close to the exact same system that I was going to get but decided to hold off a year for the successor to the Nvidia 790I Chipset. I am waiting for them to get them cooler running and less buggy.

Nvidia chipsets are buggier because they push the envelope of performance more than Intel or Via does. Intel and Via are more conservative and lessy buggy but I like Nvidia and they run better with their own video cards. I like the later revisions or the improved successors to come out though.

I like your choice though!!

He listed a 9800 for a video card. Damn I want to upgrade so bad to prepare for BoB and Blackshark. But I'm being practical, pay off cc cards, and bank loan. The agony!

But at least my patience has paid off as the 8800s are dropping through the floor now that the 9800s are out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Agony? with a 8600GT? :P imagine how I feel seeing all these setups using dual 8800's and whatnot while I have the following:

Intel core 2 duo T5600
2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
ATI mobility X1400 w/256mb

I am wondering what my SoW:BoB upgrade will be like. I am going to wait for a while yet but whatever it's going to be, it's going to be able to heat the house!

Still having a hard time getting XP installed! My slipstream disk won't boot! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I have got it to boot up with a cd copy of ubunto linix! Hmmm!

Might need to fork out some money for Vista! (AAAAHHHHH!) But what version 64 bit Home premium?

One of the reasons I went for the 9800GTX was that when SOW comes out they should be quite a bit cheeper!

I've heard nothing but trouble with 64bit, the drivers are just not ready for prime time.

I just don't get why your having so much trouble with XP. I hope you get it sorted M8.

Beg , borrow, or steal an old PCI video card (if you have a Computer shop there, they'd probally sell you one for a few bucks). Install OS, get updates, un-install old PCI... install new PCI-E...make a backup image...Done.

My new computers up and running and all is well with the world!

I guess I'm off to the community help forum to get Vista install instructions for IL2!

Cheers!
