View Full Version : Do we have any Finns in here? BIG PICS

I have been playing around with the 109G and was interested if i did a few skins on it for the Finnish community would there be any interest?? I have a couple of schemes in mind, the one is the first and is WIP as you can see from leading edges spinners etc... But the checkers were rough and ready in real life... would apprecite any links to other pics too... Both shots are of the same plane, they only did one side, have been trying to get the effect on the non chequered side as it has the Balkan cross and the banding painted out , then the wartime Finish markings painted out and finally the post war roundels added over that..... I would definately be interesed in more pictures of the B racing scheme and of the striped A scheme.

109's are not my forte so be patient

You can use programs like ILstab to get svasticas or just paint them with paintprogram. Its hard to find any Rallypaintings so iguess you had to just make them.

Part karelian part swedo.
Some Finnish skins are always welcome. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
bf109 G2 and G6 were the most common types.

I used to have several links to sites with museumplanes and personal photos from wartime and directly after before my puter crashed but these later ones were temporary sites with personal photos from those days.
I'll see if I can locate a few sites.
Oh...and I got the impression that Finns in general dont care much for the postwar roundel and want the svastika wich is known as the Von Rosencross after a swedish count who donated a few old vintage planes before the war with his lucksymbol.
A good idea would be to leave out te markings one one skin so people can choose if the want roundel or the Finn cross added with the svastika enabler programs .....just a tip.

Is it just me or is the texture quality in the screenshots turned down?

Hi Taylorman!

I have downloaded your skins in quantities and always enjoyed them! The one (see above) with the competition paintings is marvellous and correct me if I`m wrong, it is as accurate as one can be! I know the competition for which this painting was made for but I`m too lazy to get at my bookshelf now to check the date (of the competition)! LOL

We, finns, and many others (I`m sure) enjoy your high quality work even with finnish skins.

Take care,

Nice skins! The canopy seems to be of a wrong model, only the first G6's which came to Finland had that old type canopy, the later ones all had the "Erla-haube" canopy. http://www.sci.fi/~ambush/faf/fighters.html#Mersu

Sorry no good links to pictures from me, here's anyway a site which describes different squadrons' camos:

Good luck!

If we have one, i can use a later model, would that suffice?

Nice work again Tony.. assuming you don't use IL-2 Mat Manager, I really recommend you downloading it to get much more authentic finnish markings http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Though it looks allright for a post war Finnish 109..
