View Full Version : Oleg: HMG/MMG emplacements?

Doing some research for mission building, I keep seeing where most airbases used Heavy and Medium Machinegun emplacements as part of their defense.

I think these would make an excellent addition to stationary ground objects (or artillery?) available in the game.

The modelling for the MG's is already there and it would be a great thing for our mission designers.

One note: I imagine that they'd be easy to knock out as they'd basically be manned by only a few unarmored humans.

Thanks!

I agree Cossack. An MG emplacement, with sandbags, would improve the look of airfields.

A hopeful bump...

Good idea!

Ye Jacobites by name, lend an ear, give an ear!
Ye Jacobites by name, lend an ear,
Ye Jacobites by name,
Your fautes I will proclaim,
Your doctrines I maun blame, you shall hear!
2. What is Right, and what is wrang, by the law, by the law?
What is Right, and what is Wrang, by the law?
What is Right, and what is Wrang?
A short sword and a lang,
A weak arm and a strang, for to draw!
3. What makes heroic strife, famed afar, famed afar?
What makes heroic strife famed afar?
What makes heroic strife ?
To whet th' assassin's knife,
Or hunt a Parent's life, wi' bluidy war?
4. Then let your schemes alone, in the State, in the State!
Then let your schemes alone, in the State!
Then let your schemes alone,
Adore the rising sun,
And leave a man undone, to his fate!

For me it is all about immersion, so anything that makes this game seem more alive is a great idea in my book. If FB could lose that "cold" feeling we would have something really special. I hope Maddox/1c takes this into consideration in their next sim.

Roger that.

One time while designing a mission, I decided to have an armored car drive alongside the airstrip while the players' aircraft were firing up their engines. I got more positive comments about that car driving by then any single aspect of the missions. Guys just loved having that little extra something that made it seem real.

Working MG emplacements would be a big plus on that. Sandbagged ones, ones mounted as AA on a Jeep, and even mounted in a tower would be really cool, I think.

Someone on another post suggested that Oleg has said he would be adding no new ground objects.

But that doesn't seem right at all! That would be like no new maps or no new planes.

But a note from Oleg saying "Ah, maybe!" would be nice? Eh?

MG emplacements would be great. I use alot of those little Ba-64's to mimic MG emplacements, but it just isn't the same thing. Please add this very cool and simple unit.

Bump!! MG's would indeed be a great addition to the mix.
The existing AAA with sandbags would also be great (with crew would be even better)

Is the modelling community permitted to make ground objects for Oleg's consideration?
If 'yes' I'm sure those talented fellows could knock up some extra bits very quickly.

Cheers

bump, I agree. Always have thought the German stand-based 20mms looked odd, as though they should be on a ship of sorts. Wish there were other ground objects like bunkers, etc. Stuff to attack and blow up. After all, the game is named after a ground attack aircraft!

No kidding, this sim is cold feeling.

You see no humans on the ground doing anything extra, the immersion is probably more important than having the Fms just so or having this or that plane modeled.

IMHO i think Oleg and company should work on making the sim better in the immersion area for now on.

(lol mabye have some cows grazing so i can tear them apart with my prop)

Oleg has given the go a head for 3rd party modellers to do this but it will be hard to find someone who is not to busy working on aricarft.
