Are the Fulmar and Swordfish in UP2.0 official planes, "frankenplanes" or newly created MOD planes?

I was just paying about over the Mediterranean this evening and kind of stumbled upon them.

They good to me, and a nice change from Spits and 109's, but the headrest on the Swordfish is really low-res compared to the rest of the model and in an unhelpful (but quite possibly realistic)spot. Also the upper wing plus struts seemed to appear and reappear while panning around. I was just wondering if these are correctly modelled.

Overall though I thought they were great fun to play around in. Anyone else know about them/has played them?

yeah, the swordfish is good fun, but is a bit of a frankenplane, played with it quite a bit lately in co-ops with the dangerdogz and sat night ubizoo co-ops on a taranto mission

heres a thread with lots of screenies, really good fun mission, espescially the landings back on the carrier in the dark,

shame its the middle of the night for you when we do sat night co-ops.

Saw those the other day, thanks. That did look like a fun one. It would be a good laugh to play co-ops alright.
So the Swordfish is a modded plane, you think? I like it regardless.

yeah, the 3D model has been made by 6Sc.Tamat; the import, java classes coding and FM were made by 6S.Maraz.

By the way FoolTrottel made that mission, i'm sure if you asked him nicely he'd give it to you, should be fairly easy to change it to a single player mission with your expertise!!!

Well, they are mod planes, but among the better ones. The Swordfish has it's oddities, but is an interesting change - just don't expect to go anywhere in a hurry.

The Fulmar seems to have a Hurricane cockpit, but this doesn't look to bad, and the external modelling is really good - look at the complex wing folding. Again, it isn't exactly fast, but it is simple to fly, and well armed. for carrier landings, you need to take care not to remove the starboard wing on the superstructure on landing (!), but otherwise it is fairly viceless, from what I've noticed so far.

And yes, if you can get hold of FTs mission, try it offline. Or even better, join us online for a Ubi coop, I'm sure BG will run it again if you ask him, and you can experience all the joys of seeing how many different ways there are of messing up night carrier landings...

The external models of both aircraft are all new. No official cockpit have been released for either, although I understand that a proper cockpit for the stringbag is being made. Currently they both use stand-ins of average quality. A better cockpit than the Hurri is available for the Fulmar. AJW, try SAS for that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

We had fun in an FS~ private server the other night in Stringbags sinking the Bismark.

My fish dealt the killing blow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

I celebrated with a victory loop over the sinking behemoth dropping para-flares so we could drop life jackets to the survivors.

Then we all shot each other down....

The Swordfish has the most docile stall ever in this game, It's like flying a balloon.

Okay, so how do you go about getting a flight of Swordfish to take off without blowing each other up? They're lined up right next to each other - this is presumably some mod in UP2.0 at work. I taxied forward a bit then extended the wings, but is there another solution?

For mods or for regular planes, I think they look great from the outside. I had a blast flying the Fulmar last night. Until yesterday I never knew it was classed as a fighter, just looking at it made me assume it was some kind of bomber.
The British carriers in the Med and Atlantic produced some great stories which have been overshadowed by the far larger scale Pacific war (unsurprisingly) - but what drama!

The missions do sound fun. I was just reading about Swordfish ops and it got me thinking.

I'm not sure about the startup problem, FSM. (If I knew, would I be allowed to say? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

Changing the topic slightly, has anyone else spotted what the Swordfish 'airbrake' control does?

I think that's exactly what he's trying to show us! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

A nice feature nevertheless. I never noticed that you can control it via the brakes, I thought the gunner rises automatically whenever an enemy is in a vicinity, like on some other planes (Pe-2, SM.79,...), thanks for pointing it out Andy.

Hard case. Never thought to try it.
Taking off in a Swordfish is unsettling. You're off the deck before you reach the bridge sometimes. Still haven't landed successfully but that's nothing out of the ordinary.
I feel a campaign coming on. Swordfish, Fulmar, SM79, CR42 - it'd be craptacular!

Don't for get the Sea Hurricane and Sea Gladiator, FSM...

Sea Hurricane?! Sea Hurricane?! I suppose you are one of those late-war uber-pimped-out-plane fans, Herr West? Real men fly at walking speed!

And the Gladiator? What self-respecting biplane has a canopy for Gott's sake?
Real men love hypothermia, sodden misery and frostbite.

Hie thee to a nunnery!

Fulmar really is quite nicely done and actually quite a good fighter in the sim (though can't speaks as to real life)....It also has some nice little touches like the observers head really swivels about regularly, opening pits both front and rear....Fun aircraft.

There you go FSM, LBF has proved how wrong you are: Fulmar is wimmins plane. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

And yeah, the Fulmar is quite handy in a dogfight, surprisingly so in fact.
I had noticed the scanning head -it's quite convincing I thought.

I think for ultimate realism, it needs to move a little faster, and the eyes should roll upwards:

No campaign is complete without the Storch.
