I'm beginning the think anonymity is not a bad thing here. Like everyone I like acknowledgment and response from others, but I rather enjoy entering a thread and making comments others don't take too serious. I don't want to be misunderstood because I do have my opinions and have made some known, but as I've become more familiar with this forum many threads with a subject I find interesting, I stay away from. Many of its participants have already carved their own niche of attitude. Even if my opinion had no attitude, most likely I would be wrong.

This may not be so bad if it was limited to a select few subjects, being almost Mr. Anonymous could still be enjoyable, but I'm wondering if its becoming increasingly unpredictable, and much more insidious. The more I come here the more I experience subjects that start out completely innocent from any known niche attitude yet end up degenerating, sometimes because of just one know-it-all. I'm even beginning to sense a growing angst because of the unforeseeable, unpredictable response coming from a number of members ready and willing to make a mockery. Its almost to the point now there's an ever-present imposition to guard your steps so some jerk doesn't get off on himself putting you down, for reasons none other than that very purpose. Even if you want to add some humor you better have a well understood strategy for the necessary placement of each and every smiley face.

I'm not implying I'm on to anything, I know many members have shared similar feelings. I also mentioned in a previous post I enjoy the latitude of expression the Moderators allow. I'm not sure there are any clear answers. I can't help to wonder though if screws aren't tightened, even with great add-ons...how many folks who have made this an online home will be here 6 months from now?

I started my online "life" or "career" here at the UBI IL-2 forums as a lurker at first, then a tentative poster, then quite an active participant and now back as a contented lurker and occasional spammer.

There are all sorts of personalities here which is a good thing. After a while you come to know exactly where they're coming from before they've laid down a single sentence, good or bad.

I do share your concern about this place 6 months or more down the line. The gap between the last add-on and Oleg's new sim is going to bleed this place dry of original on-topic posts. This place could either turn very ugly or very funny (maybe both) in those cold months during 2004/5.

If you're tired of this place try CWoS. It's great - you can say the "f" word and everything......

Thanks Lix, you are a class act, even though 96% of you righys prefer the "f" word.

Been thinking about this lately also and have to agree, it has improved quite a bit compared to just before the first patch for FB. You still can't hold a decent coverversation without someone bringing up an FM grip though. What ensues generally after that is a argument that gets ugly sometimes and thats probably the reason we find Oleg feeling the way he does now. The community shot itself in the foot. The interaction that was once enjoyed between the community and the devs could be improved though perhaps through the moderation of itself.

When someone who is known for being negative and troublesome tries to start a stink, ignore them. They will eventually get the picture.

Well, I used to be RaybanJockey but sold the name to ******** when I hit 2000 posts.
Now, I am who I am, or rather have been for a long time. Its too hard anymore to maintain 13 alias's and keep all with extraordinary high post counts.
Look in EBay, I'll be selling several names in the coming days.

Really dont know about if I have any kind of rep, but if so, I hope I'm considered 1 of the good guys.

The problem I belive is mainly misunderstandings due to different languages and cultures and ofcourse age.

People will always disagree and argue, its a fact of life.

A civil disagreement or argument is one thing. Friendly banter is fine too. It's when it degrades into name calling and racial insults thats the problem. And whats even more disheartning is when someone insults the devs who work so hard on this. That's the main problem.

That the Mods swing the ban hammer. Those posts dissappear and so do the intellectuals that post them. There are lines here. I would not want to be a moderator but I think they do an excelent job.

I am 45.

I have had many toys, many excellent ones.

FB is the best, and the best $40 I ever spent. Thanks, Oleg!

These are very valuable forums. Much knowledge is passed here. Hunter82 and Steve V have done a great deal to help the COMMUNITY enjoy the game in the Technical Forum.

Why would they do this thankless task? Perhaps they love the game themselves and are gratified to spread the joy, albeit anonomously? It's fun to be Santa, isn't it lads?

My sincere thanks to the community. Perhaps if we had to actually pay by the pound for the fun we have with this game there would be more appreciation and less derision. S!

Cheers!

Robert

Excellent post arcadeace, I know just where you are coming from. I have discovered to my cost, that my sense of humour is completely lost on this forum. It just makes you feel like staying dumb and happy. One word out of place, or of disagrement can make some guys turn on you with real venom!

I'd never join a club that would have ME as a member!!.

Agree with every word ~S~ Yes, many, many toys. Excellent value- even if I add the upgrades and aggravation!
