I'm seriously impressed with the way this game looks. I showed the trailer by Glowing Amraam to a friend and I know he and I were both impressed with the visual quality of it.. the A-10 both looks and "feels" like the real thing as it pulls through maneuvers... So cool.

Not sure if I want to invest in another sim... especially one that complicated. I'll think about it!

I purchased Burning Cliffs II a few months ago after having played Flaming Cliffs for years - I could not be happier!
Blackshark was the first sim from DCS to utilize the current engine - Flaming Cliffs II integrated the original Flaming Cliffs single and multi player into the new engine, and allows for FCII pilots to fly with or against Blackshark guys online. The new A-10 release is the first in a series of revisions and improvements to the FCII aircraft to "bring them up" to the potential of the new engine.

I saw recently, "Lock-On Platinum" for $50 Aus. is it just the original Lock-on with a couple of extra planes added or a collection of the whole Lock-on series ?? Cheers. JM.

Lock-On, in its un-updated form, is a horrible bug-infested POS. You will need to install Lock-On and purchase at least Flaming Cliffs from the DCS website to have something playable.

Did you see the hardware spec for it?

I didn't see the hardware specs, is it really bad?

Considering flight sims in a series don't come out more than once or twice a decade, I'm all for maxing out its performance (and unfortunately my system requirements) as I'm sure there won't be a replacement in 5 years.

Simulations aren't like a re-hash of Madden each year. Think of IL-2 had lower system requirements back in the day, how much uglier it would look now. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got Flaming Cliffs at 10 from Play.com IIRC.

I did 3 flights and since then it's under my desktop, on the floor, keeping my pedals aligned.

Well modern air combat is not everyone's cup of tea - then again neither is WWI or WWII air combat http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Certainly working the various systems while flying and trying to maintain situational awareness in respect to BVR targets is MUCH different than maneuvering around for a shot with MG's or cannon. I'm happy to have the choice that is available today - my computer currently has RoF (WWI), IL2(WWII), Blackshark(cold-war/modern), FCII(cold-war/modern), FSX(civil/non-combat military), and Condor(soaring online comptetition). Some evenings I'll switch among 2 or 3 as I sit happily in my simpit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well the campaign mode was a big let down for me in FC2, I played flightsims with better campaigns in the nineties. Apparently they have added improvements like a random mission generator and the ability to control ground forces during missions. Still hoping for a Falcon 4.0 style campaign, to me that was still the most fun I have ever had in a flightsim campaign with Il-2 a close second.

It's not really about the modern air combat, it's more about the game's engine and the bugs. :-)

I'm really just curious what you have experienced - I've had no problems at all with FCI, FCII, or Blackshark. Original un-patched LOMAC was pretty rough but that was almost a decade ago lol.

+1. FC, FCII and Black Shark run rather nice and bugs free.
I think the step learning curve is intimidating a lot of players to get into DCS.
The huge amount of systems you have to understand and learn in order to be able to do a simple flight is what keeps a lot of casual sim players away.
Learning to fly and be marginally effective in Black Shark was for me one of the most rewarding experiences in a Flight Sim. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
I'm sure the new A-10 DCS sim is just as rewarding.
Can't wait to get my hands on it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif I just hope my Q6600 can handle it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Thats one thing that is missing from my collection is a good A10 sim. I love that plane and that sim looks very cool.
I saw an A10 land in N Saudi Arabia about 20 years ago with one of it's vertical stabs shot half off and jaggedy. I was very close to it as it approached on final. It landed okay. Amzing bird.

Well, it's definitely on the long range list. I'm 100% certain I'll have to do a major upgrade on ye olde computer first, though. It'll be a while. In the mean time: http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sleepzzz.gif

My home gaming rig has a Q6600 quad core and a GTS 250 vid card - it runs FCII and Blackshark without difficulty. Heck even FSX looks great even with the ORBX terrain mesh cranked.

That sounds pretty decent specs wise. A Q6600 isn't a new CPU... although it's a very good one and the GTS 250 is a good card but not a top performer these days either. So that is good!

Damn! This thing is awesome. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif And the best part, it runs decent on my puter. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

The detail of this plane is bloody insane! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I can't get enough of the sinister grawl of that gun.
I recorded a quick clip trying to capture it, but looks like most of it was lost in the compression. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif I'm clueless ar movie editing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

WOW Jaws you must have a monster system to get playable FPS with that visual quality, HDR looks great. I have to set everything on low except textures to get playable frame rates (ATI4850 1Gb) looks like i'll be needing a new VGA for Crimbo.

I should elaborate on my experience with DCS Blackshark:

Wonderful simulator, and it is that. No game here. I loved it, but had two issues and an annoyance.

1. I don't speak Russian, nor, more importantly, read Cyrillic, which all the systems are marked in on that platform.

2. With the various places switches are in the cockpit, some form of head tracking device is absolutely essential, without question. Not having one, I just couldn't get the most out of the simulator, though I could definitely see its potential.

3. I wish they'd get rid of that goofy little blue "This is an A-10, it's X distance away, and Y is flying it" symbol. Heck, IL-2 has the options to turn that stuff off and that was ten years ago! Come on, guys!

you actually can turn off the labels in black shark,I haven't got my proper gaming rig at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it's ctrl or shift and F10,it's also also left or right side of the keyboard for the ctrl/shift specific, try both and you should figure it out.

Also in the english release the buttons are all in english within the sim, just not in the manual which is a little annoying but not so bad that you can't get past it.

Good luck.

Yep. The English install has all labels in English, in both Black shark and A-10. I think you can switch the pit labels to English in the settings menu also.
The labels can be turned off with LShift+F10 i think. You can also turn labels on or off for vechicles, boats.

English labels in my BlackShark pit:
