Hi OLEG,

First, welcome back to better health.

OK, that's the grovelling out of the way http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Seriously, IL2-FB.... for me is a big improvement on any other combat sim I have 'flown' but there is one thing that is seriously limited and that is the in-game comms facility.

Radio: no-one uses the in-game vox due to CPU load etc. That's fine - we use Teamspeak, we just lose the vox on films. It just puts a serious limitation on comms due to all te different TS servers but we can live with that if...........

Text/Chat - sorry but it's almost unuseable. Really. Far too much info to read in the space available - especially Server messages - and expanding it by opening the buffer and faffing around with the mouse is too cumbersome in flight/combat. It really is of little use most of the time.

Please can you help improve this with:

1. In setup or by editing an .ini file a means of changing the text font size so we can see more in the space we set for text/chat?

2. Most important, can we have a keymap toggle facility for expanding the text buffer to say 20 rows or even full screen at the touch of a button to catch up with all that scrolling text?

Hope you can help with this,

regards

klem

There already is a buffer; with the chatbox selected you can scroll up or down the messages with page up and down. Setting the size to 3 lines or more helps too.

Thanks for the comments guys but Shift + Tab (which I knew about) is still too cluttered and hard to read in a hurry.

Can the Shift+Tab be set to opaque instead of transparent? Can it be linited to Chat only?

A quick readable chat buffer is what I am looking for.

Not to forget that when u pres SHIFT + TAB your controls are locked. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

I would like to see comms enhanced when playing in SP along with MP. I'd actually like it if each flight in a campaign mission identified themselves by their colours or some other individual tag. Example your in a mission where there are four different flights operating simultaneously and you hear "Fighters 12 o'clock", you instantly start twisting and turning trying to find the bandits only to realise it was another friendly flight some 50km away. In the meantime I've lost my spot on the map and my timing is all out, I play with no map path and no icons and plot my own course using printed maps and a stop watch, sick I know but its fun.

You mean you expect the AI to act better than humans? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Trying to get a human to report his location is equally difficult, perhaps Oleg modelled this quite well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Human on comms "SOMEONE GET THIS BANDIT ON MY SIX!!!"

Recon: "uh, where are you????"

Human on comms "NOT SURE, BUT THERE IS WATER UNDER ME!!!"

Recon: "ok, calm down, look at your map, where are you?"

Human on comms "nevermind, he got me"

Recon: "Where did he get you?"

LOL....yes I know how frustrating it is flying online but you must forgive a lot of people as they probably don't have a military background or make the effort to fly in a disciplined manner. If online flyers were to fly in the "correct" military manner then I'd say many of us wouldn't get killed as often.

I have noticed that many of the online servers try to force a proper flying style but ultimately everyone, including myself, end up flying like its IL2-Quake. That‚‚ā¨ôs why I say in SP mode IL-2 could be improved to bring out the immersion value.

"If online flyers were to fly in the "correct" military manner then I'd say many of us wouldn't get killed as often."

That's one of the reasons we need improved comms. For my friends and I there IS only online flying. We have been in the same squads for years, way back to Air Warrior days and then Aces High. We fly as 'correctly' as we can, wingmen, fours, etc and try to use appropriate tactics etc.

We use TS for vox but what is missing is the ability to communicate with other guys who don't always want to use the Game Server TS (like the Virtual Pilots one).

So we're stuck with trying to watch the buffer. But then, because its not effective there's very little organisation or tactical chat between us and others.

It's very noticeable that some squads operate really well within their squad but outside that it's all mind reading http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
