HOLY FRAME RATES, BATMAN!!!

The "new" executable is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I'm averaging 31 FPS in the "Kamikaze" track with the following settings:

1024x768x32 resolution @ 85Hz (max for my low-end monitor)
PERFECT terrain graphics
EXCELLENT all other graphics
Water = 3
Forest = 3
3dgunners = 1
Anti-Aliasing MAXED @ 8xS
Anisotropic Filtering MAXED @ 16x
High Quality imaging
V-Synch ON
66.93 WHQL NVidia drivers

Before this, I averaged 31 FPS in the "Kamikaze" track with all of the above settings...except Anti-Aliasing @ 4x, Anisotropic Filtering OFF, V-Synch OFF.

WHAT A JOY!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I don't think 8xS AA works in OpenGL.

It does. But really, I don't know how the original poster is getting those fps at those settings, but I have not tried the new-executable yet. With the regular executable, those setting give you 8-10 fps.

Imma dig up the cd and post what I get with the new .exe.

I can understand your skepticism, Slammin'...but it's true. I've checked and re-checked it several times now.

Before the "new" .EXE file, Anisotropic Filtering...even with my 6800GT card on my powerful system...would slow things down to where it just wasn't worth it.

What blew me away was that I saw very little variation in FPS in the "Kamikaze" track as I cranked the "eye candy" settings higher and higher.

As a "sanity check" (and just out of curiosity), I decided to run the "Kamikaze" track using the "old" .EXE file with all of my settings MAXED out...as stated above in my original post.

I only averaged 7 FPS....a regular slide-show.

When I re-ran it using the "new" .EXE file, this time around I averaged 33 FPS with the above settings.

I don't know what magic fairy dust Oleg & Company sprinkled on this thing, but it's flippin' amazing!

Apparently the new .exe file uses a new Sun Java technique (developed in Russia) that converts to a Windows.exe language that runs much more efficiently...hence, the improvement in load time/performance...one of the guys posted a link to the Sun Java write up, which I could not find at the moment, so please don't flame me from a tech perspective http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

here's a review on the Java 5.0 that you mentioned.

Which part of the game uses Java?

Well, now...I feel like a total idiot.

I just figured out that I totally forgot to link the "new" .EXE file to my 6800's profile for the game...it was still linked to the "old" .EXE file. So, yeah, what I was seeing was the game running under "Application Controlled" settings.

That explains why the average FPS didn't change much no matter what I did to the settings lol.

When I did so, my FPS returned to normal...which for me is 31 FPS with Anti-Aliasing @ 4x, Anisotropic Filtering OFF, High Quality imaging, V-Synch OFF. With everything MAXED out, it turns into a slide show. <sigh>

Sorry about this, everybody.

Thanks to Whiskey over on the SimHQ forum for getting me to start scratching my head on this!

But the game and the missions DO load much faster now! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
