Hey Merlin, do you remember a discussion you and I had a while back, on SimHQ's PF forum I think, about your making a video of a plane landing, disengaging the hook, and taxiing forward to the bow while folding it's wings? You said it would take a few days to do that, but it's been quite a while now.

The reason I'm bringing this up, is not to spur you on to get this done, but to just ask you if it's even possible. I was watching the "Tech Demo" video on UBi's site, and noticed that, at the end, the Zero makes a successful landing, but then just shuts off the engine while the arresting gear is still stretched out! I'm wondering if that was an AI, or if that was a human flown plane.

Is it possible to, after landing, disengage your hook, retract it and taxi forward to a parking spot? I know this seems like kind of a wierd question, but it strikes me as a bit funny that we haven't seen this done yet in any of the videos that have been made. Not once have we seen a screen shot of planes parked up forward, where they would be after the air group has been recovered. Not once have we seen a video of what a plane does after it has made an arrested landing. It wasn't until I saw this video of UBi's that it occurred to me that I haven't once seen anything AFTER the trap. If an AI lands before me at the end of a mission, does he just shut down where he ends up on the deck, or does he disappear, or does he taxi forward to park????

I must say, I'm a little disappointed with how the deck is spotted at the beginning of a mission, but I can understand the problems that had to be overcome, however I can't imagine us not being able to stack the deck up forward after a mission has been flown. Please give me some assurance that I haven't wasted my money by pre-ordering this game!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

"Is it possible to, after landing, disengage your hook, retract it and taxi forward to a parking spot?"

Yes!

My procedure after landing is to retract the hook, taxi forward almost to the front of the CV, fold wings, close the canopy and turn off the ignition.

Thankyou E-O! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Now, can you tell me what the AI does after they land?

Oh yes, its is very possible..

After a succesfull trap landing, you just "spit" the wire by retracting the hook, you fold your wing and taxi to a quiet spot, than you stop and put chocks on your plane so that he doesnt move any further.

Sorry I forgot about this video. I'll try to make a video with 5 or 6 human players on the Essex deck after landing.

About AI, they just spit the wire, move forward, shut engine, folw wings, and than disappear.

ps to E-one you could fold wing 1st, taxi, turn lights off, and than set mixture to 0% before turning both magnetos to OFF position http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks Merlin, and E-O, for the replies. I'd love to see the video Merlin, but there's no need to do it on my account. I'll take your word for it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I've pre-ordered the game, and I'll have it in less than a month anyway.

I'd like to thank you Merlin, for providing us with all those little glimpses into this game. It's made the time go by a little faster. I'd also like to thank F-S for their videos as well.

It goes without saying that Oleg and Luthier deserve a huge dept of gratitude from all of us for their work on this project. I'm quite sure that PF will keep us busy and well entertained during BoB's development.

Sounds like they have kept the current AI behavior instead of fixing it back to what it used to be (planes not disappearing). Unfortunate. Seeing my wingmen land, and looking at all our shot up planes was always fun until they "fixed" it.

Oh!!!! so their will be a separate command to raise the hook in the wires? That's good to know. I was getting worried. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif To toggle the hook in CFS2 was "shift + H". I'll probably model it that way in my game so not to re-learn a command I've been use to for five years http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
