Hi all.

Jusr getting into this ole game, and got some basics under my belt (Take off/landing) after about 4 days, BUT where can I find information on how to actually complete missions. The on-disc manual is rather vague, and doesn't explain what to do with Waypoints and mission objectives (eg. Recon...what do you do to complete that!?).

Sorry for sounding so dumb, but would love to get into this game proper, so if you can point me to the right place for this info, it'd be GREATLY appreciated http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Eleanor_Death,

airwarfare.com is the place to go if you need to get up and running or need some tips and tricks. The team there are second to none and the site has a wealth of information not found anywhere else on the web.

Post in the forums for Pacific Fighter/Forgotten Battles and you will have answers within a day. Ask for MaXMhZ he's a PF/FB encyclopedia!!

Welcome to the the fun (and addiction).

Go to Airwarfare. (http://www.airwarfare.com/)

Cheers, CrazySchmidt. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks Crazy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I've been there and it is a great site, but I can't find anything specific on just how to PLAY missions http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

As you suggested, I'll try the forum http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks ahain,

Elly

Generally, recons only require you to fly near them. They might be set though for an amount of time after you do to score points or for you to land after visiting that spot.

If you mission is to destroy something i.e. a flight of planes or a ship then it maybe set for a percentage on the flight. Say its 25% and its a flight of 4, then you have to shoot one down out of that flight to score. For ships though you really have to sink it.

Ultimately completing missions is just surviving. There are a few missions that are time related or something must die before an amount of time has elapsed. Those are the annoying ones that you end up reflying.

Sooo, (I'll leave you alone after this one)...how do you know if/when you've completed a certain task, or hit the waypoint, within the mission (just so's you know that it's worth carrying on...)?

No, no, no...by all means, pester away. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This side of the house isn't as busy as it used to be which explains the dearth of responses.

Usually, when you've met the mission goals you get "Mission Accomplished" splashed on the screen but, depending on your goals (and any hidden or secret goals) this might not happen until after you land. Many times just making it back to base alive is the goal. Just read the mission brief and study the map before you take off and that should point you in the right direction.

And speaking of being pointed in the right direction you had asked about waypoints. Waypoints are funny critters. First off, you should follow them. I think that goes without saying. But I just did so...anyway, make sure you fly over all of them. If you don't there will forever be a line pointing back to the one you've missed. The only way I know of to rectify this is to fly back to the waypoint and go over it. Unless you are in command of a flight. In that case I've found that issuing the "next waypoint" command to your squadmates will switch your target to the next waypoint. If anyone knows a different way...please tell me! Please!

Now, this brings up the PDI (Pilot Direction Indicator). Many planes have a PDI (not sure off the top of my head which ones...maybe all) that, when centered, indicates the correct heading to the next waypoint. This instrument is usually a half circle with a needle in the middle and marks on the left, right, and center. If the needle points left you should turn left, if it points right you should turn right and if it's in the middle you're headed in the right direction. If you like to play with full difficulty and have turned off map icons and mini-map path (which, personally, I liken to the kneeboards worn by pilots) in the difficulty settings you can use the PDI to navigate from waypoint to waypoint. Some planes (such as my beloved B-25) have compasses which indicate true heading and heading to target. This is very handy.

As for mission goals make sure to read your mission brief. Different goals include ground attack (either strafing or low level bombing), bombing (either level or dive bombing), recon (just fly over the spot), interception (keep your eyes peeled!), bomber escort (don't be lured away!) and any hidden or secret goals. Secret goals can be anything from just landing at the end of the mission or taking out a group of enemy tanks nobody knew was there.

Hope that helps!

S!
