Hello guys.
I need some instructions on how to bomb with a stukas.
I almost always miss the target and that makes me very nervous!
Thank you all for your responses.

Well, what kind of bombing are you doing, level or dive-bombing? If you are dive bombing it's best to be at about 1300m. Look at the target through the "floor window",once you've passed over the target and it's out of sight, cut throttle to 0%,enable dive-brakes,and invert the plane into a dive. Be sure to have the gun site centered and keep the target in the middle of the site. When the horn sounds drop the bombs, disengage the dive brakes, and throttle up.

(btw,if you have the FB patch, the Stuka will automatically pull out of the dive after you've dropped your bombs.)

To bomb accurately with the stuka, you MUST dive-bomb.

Smaller angle attacks can also be done with stukas, but the stuka was MADE for steep angle attacks.

Checklist for dive-bombing in the stuka:

1. Decide what kind of attack you want to do (roll-over, or nose-down) HOW? you ask? Well, decide from what position you want to attack your target, and decide which would put you on a home heading the fastest.

2. Have altitude, 3000m at the very least, preferably have 3500m to dive.

3. Engage the dive brakes, hold the dive angle to 80-90 degrees. Anything less than a perfect 90 you will have to aim a bit higher with your gunsight.

4. Its recomended to drop your bombs at no lower than 800m, but, you can get away with it at 500m with the auto-pullout.

Hopefully this helps some /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Wow! That high?! I've been doing it all wrong...I generally dive at around 1300m.

It was a system used to pull the stuka out of it's dive after the release of it's bomb load. The G forces of the dive/pull up sometimes caused the pilot to blackout and crash, I think.

Diving from higher you have more time to aim, but 1300m is also fine.

Dive bombing had impressive results in reality too, a soviet Pe-2 unit specialised in dive bombing had an average precision of 18m, better than many of todays "smart" weapons (e.g. : JDAMs).

A question: When you dive,do you guys also use flaps along with the dive-brakes? For me,if I dive much higher than 1300m I gain too much speed even with the dive-brakes. I don't normally use flaps in a dive, and I was wondering if this is what I was doing wrong.

(btw,I always set throttle to 0%)

I only use the dive brakes, but I release the bomb as soon as my aim is correct, usually diving from about 2000m.

That said, a relatively high speed is very usefull after getting out of the dive as it helps you to get away quickly from the flak.

Are there any Stuka campaigns available for download, similar to experten? I feel i have overlooked this bird, and since i have just got FB (had IL2 v1.2) the new skins are absolutely gorgeous!

Is the FB v1.0 Stuka campaign worth its salt?

Thanks

I don't use flaps when I dive... just close the throttle all the way to 0 and throttle up again when you have pulled out and are egressing.
