View Full Version : IL-2 vs Forgotten Battles

Either its me or my computer, but I've played both games and I prefer IL-2. I think the graphics and realism are better in FB, but IL-2 just seems like a lot more fun. It's easier to find the targets (I don't like using the padlock) and these swirling, free-for-all dogfights with a bunch of Yaks and Focke Wulfs over Kursk are really a blast. Another thing I like is watching what happens to your pilot's plane after he's been KIA'd. You can't do that in FB. You're flying along and then suddenly the screen just goes black. In FB, you have a short intense dogfight and then you wander around trying to find the enemy for the next five minutes. I don't have that problem in IL-2. Like I said, it's probably not as realistic, but it is much more fun. Any comments? Get a better computer? I haven't played online yet.
Also, any suggestions for a good IL-2 mission. I recently played one with 20 FWs bouncing 12 Yaks in the process of strafing a German airfield. I threw in some wirblewinds for ground fire (great fireworks display) and then had the FW get bounced by about 16 more Yaks after about 2 minutes into the dogfight. It makes for an action packed battle. IL-2 is really a great game

I still prefer IL-2 in many respects, and certainly for on-line play. I think most of the a/c handle better and the sound of all of them (engines and weapons) is far better than FB. There always seemed to be more action happening on the ground during campaigns and more varied missions to fly. However, FB is the latest and I have several missions on the go, so I feel I should stick with it.

I'd never join a club that would have ME as a member!!.

I like Il2 better in many respects too, but unfortunately I'm not sure you can find anyone to play online with anymore.

+ you sure get used to the extra eyecandy and especially to the Dora, which is one of my fav planes.

If you equate the age of these sim to age of the dogs, the daughter would be less than 5 where as the mother is about 18 years of age. Take you pick. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

IL2 rocks, FB sucks.

Well, let`s say: FB never convinced me that much as IL2 did. I consider IL2 much more realistic (a subjective impression, as I admit).

I`ll give FB another try after the "final"(?) patch, but I`m not that much optimistic...

It seem there are a number of people who feel this way....so where are they? HL has maybe 10 people on at any time (the IL2 room)

IL-2 overall is better. I don't why they devoted so much time to fixing things that were not broken--like flight models and sound. I would rather they developed new scenery and aircraft and came up with a new theatre game, rather than another Eastern Front one. YAWN.

The enemy AI in FB is better, I guess, but only because they are unbelievably good shots. Their tactics are predictable and unimaginitive compared to the original.

Every single game review sight rated IL-2 higher than FB. No wonder.
