View Full Version : AMD64 X2 3800+ 2xGeforce6800GS SLI = 18 fps?

First my system specs:

AMD64 X2 3800+
Abit KN8 SLI
2 GB Ram
2x Geforce 6800GS 512Mb

With these specs I get an average of 18fps at 1280x1024x32 in perfect mode. What's funny, if I turn off SLI I get around 50 fps and even more if I turn off hardwareshaders. In all SLI modes I get the same poor results, worst is alternate frame rendering mode which is really choppy.

Any ideas? Is my system broken?

Yes some driver settings to get.
What is your driver?

Sounds like a problem with SLI support--hell, I play at 1600x1200, Perfect Landscape, AAx4 with a Radeon X800Pro and still get around 30 FPS. Perhaps you haven't updated all the way to get full SLI support?

Try the lastest 92.91 the early versions had problem with SLI.

Make sure of:
Go to Start > Run > rundll32.exe nvcpl.dll,LaunchMultiGpuApplet

Check the SLI box

Make sure there isn't anything in your bios that needs to be turn on or set in order to run in SLI. I know this DFI bios has such a setting that will need to be enabled if\when I decide to go SLI.

I _know i am in SLI mode, I can even turn on a visualisation showing how much each GPU working. Besides that I get excellent performance in other games, for example BF2: 100+ FPS at 1280x1024 with all settings at maximum.

Did you download and install the AMD Dual Core drivers for Windows? They are VERY important for video quality. My frame rates more than doubled after applying them. It tells you to do this in the AMD processor instruction manual.

Apply the dual core optimizer and the Windows XP driver.

And you need to up date those drivers
for the video card!
I also use SLI but with dual 7900GTs.
Early drivers were a disaster.

Wow.. what a difference in frames and stability!

Thanks a ton!

Yup, got the AMD optimizer already.

Installed the beta 92.91 driver last night, going to test them out when I get home.

Hopefully yeah, I won't be able to test the new driver until tuesday since I'm out of town on business. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks again for the tips all. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you haven't already done it you could try installing the application nHancer and tweak your SLI setup with that. Get it here:

http://www.nhancer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=148)

You need Microsoft .NET 2.0 to make it work.

Thanks for all the tips so far, I've just tried out 92.91 driver with no improvement.... It seem like the card(s) cannot handle hardwareshars=1 or something, because when I disable perfect mode game flows as good as ever.

Don't know if this will be any good, but here goes:

I run two 6600gts with driver version 81.98 at 1600*1200, but only at 'excellent' settings. 'Perfect' is just too much for my cards. Any higher revision seems to make my cards go back to single card type operation for this game no matter what settings in the game. Framerates plummet. Other games, no problems.

I also have the AMD dual core drivers etc installed (running 3800 dual core). I have tried many newer drivers, cleared the old ones etc, even tweaked IL2 SLI profiles but no joy. My feeling is that later drivers are possibly more optimised toward 7 series cards.

So, until I can save the folding stuff for a 7950, I must make do.
