What is dgen?

Ok this may sound extremely noobish but what exactly is dgen? Does it generate campaigns or is it a tool for making campaigns? I've downloaded it but i want to know what it is before i install it. Help me , and no laughing!

dgen is a single player campaign generator.

dcg is made by Lowengren (sp?) and is a plug-in replacement for dgen.

ngen is a multiplayer campaign generator.
