Looks beautiful, FSM, but my CPU is crying looking at those screenies. My rig would run that at less then 1 fps http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Better start saving for a new pc!

He's at it again and by the look of it I will need to upgrade my puter for this one.

The box formations look amazing, look forward to flying this one .

Thanks for all your hard work FSM.

Defence of the Reich is my favourite subject in Il-2, so I'm really looking forward to this.

CastleBravo, Maverick, JSG72 - this is something i've long been interested in,too. It won't be ready for a long time I'm afraid as I don't havemuch time to work on it but I'll try and do the best job I can to make it equal to your interest.
The missions I have practised with so far have had around 80 planes in them. I have a dual core E-something or other and an nVidia 8600GTS card so I'm finding that it runs well enough (I've pulled out all the stops to minimise frame rate hits) but from the few people who have tested it on older set ups it's not running well. I intend to make a light version but even that will have formations of 30-40 bombers in it. There's no way to capture the scale and epic feeling of his battle with just a few planes.
Pilotpimpf - I saw your nice screenshots from Kondor. Good work and thanks for playing it.
Slipball - it sure is. I decided to stop making campaigns after that RAF one but I just really enjoy it, far more interesting than watching TV or something. So I'll chip away at this slowly and one day it'll be out.

Now if we could get the AI wingmates to stay in arrow formation and make head-on-attacks only http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

04-04-2008, 07:00 AM
That is the problem alright, Thor. They almost always blow all their energy and attack from the rear.
By the way, can I ask you a few questions via PM?

Shoot ... err ... bad phrase. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Try, calling them in and ordering "Attack my target".

I fly a few missions that were released a couple of years ago.

One that has 10 missions flying JG1 marked 190A-8s (So no mk108s then!). and another that is a Bomber box intercept in conjunction with 4 Me-262s. (This is the best simulation of the "BOX"formation.)

They are tantalising screenies FlatSpin.

I experimented with authentic formations 2 or 3 years back, and found it impractical, i.e. the higher aircraft go relatively faster, apparently due to lower air density. I guess a fine-tuning of speeds could make them all stick together. Have you got this issue sorted?

04-06-2008, 12:43 AM
The player as flight leader can get the AI to attack targets if using padlock but apart from that they generally wont do frontal attacks.

yes, that height/speed thing is a pain in the oshiri, Nutcase. In my BOB campaign I managed to get around it by playing each mission a million times and adjusting waypoints and speeds. What's really stupid is that different plane types set at the same altitiude and at the same speed will travel at different speeds. Really annoying, far more work than it should be to make large formations.

I drool at the sight of those screenshots! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Wow. Those BW screenies look like actual shots. I had similar FR problems wiht my current 1947 east west project ive worked on for over 10 mos now (finally getting it tested and almost done wiht lots of skins).

I had to tone down everything to get it to run decent on most computers, and its' pushing it at that. I could only do it like it was part of a larger battle, as too many planes just gagged it.

I just did an amphib landing using the manchuria map, and I had to eliminate ALL the landing craft to get the FR decent. Still looks good though.

Pity we got all this neat stuff but are so limited in using it.

Any news on this campaign FSM ?

Do hope it has not gone on permanent hold.

you should honor Robert Ritter Von Greim in this campaign as the last true Luftwaffe Commander.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif But with 80 planes, smoketrails, explosions and everything this mission will lool like a slideshow on my PC.
The only smoketrail I will see then is from the backside of my PC I'm afraid. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
