View Full Version : ATI Text bug in perfect mode/All ATI users please read!

I put this in the 5.9 thread but decided to start a seperate thread for all to see.

This bug has been around too long and I am trying to get it resolved with ATI driver team. However, I need the help of the masses. I need all people who experience this bug to post here and go to ATI Catalyst Feedback (https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=737-1713) and put in a trouble ticket.

Still getting that annoying blocky text bug in perfect. This bug only happens during artillery explosions on the ground.

http://phantomfighters.nrgservers.net/Coastie%20Pics/IL2PF%20text%20bug.jpg

To reproduce, You must be in Perfect mode. Start QMB, choose Crimea map, be sure AAA is chosen as defense. Start mission and crash plane into ground immediately. Now use camera view and look towards horizon at ground level. When the artillery hits the ground you will see the errors.

To take it one step further, during the error, hit the escape key. Now the menu will look like this:

http://phantomfighters.nrgservers.net/Coastie%20Pics/ATI.IL2FB-bug.jpg

Whoever can reproduce this, please post here and do an ATI catalyst feedback report.

Thanks

I get the exact same problem with a Radeon X800XL in all modes that I have tried. It only happens when artillery explodes on the ground within visual distance of the blast.

This dogfight server mission file will also give you this corruption every time if you spawn at or fly over the NorthWestern Allied base which is under constant artillery attack.

I think I mentioned this to you at one time Coastie...not sure if it was here but I can only reproduce from 4.01 on...previous patches do not exhibit this on my system... Just a FYI for those that want to test it.

Yes Hunter, you did. I just forgot to mention it here. I was convinced this was a PF problem introduced with 4.01 patch. But with the recent addition to the problem with the menu screen, I am having doubts now.

I guess we will see if this problem mysteriously disappears with 4.02!

Howdy

Yes i have the (had) the same blocky text in 5.7 and 5.8 even in online games, i had some black skies also mostly in the 1945 maps (online too), I wrote had,cos was so tyred of those glitches,i switched back to 5.6.

Btw i have a Asus 9800XT 256Mb agp card
windows XP pro
2 gig dualchannel ram
MSI 875Neo-FIS2R
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz 800Fsb
soundcard is build in board(5.1) plus a soundblaster pci 16 for joystick (soundcard is not used only gameport)
onboard intel gigabit LAN

and its not a overheating issue, the cards runs at 50 degrees celsius under full load in perfect .
I don't know if the cat 5.9 solved those probs but im afraid not so i will skip them.

This is the same for me Coastie. Prior to 4.01 no prob,, now I get it, but rarely. I play almost excusively online though? I also get the "black screen" and just my cockpit showing bug, which requires a re-boot.

I will post a screenshot here when I next get it but it seems identical to what you posted.

I have not tried the later Cat versions as from what I have read from others this can increase the problem..

I am inclined to believe that also Willey. But, I want ATI to confirm this problem and "officially" say it is NOT thier problem. This way we may be able to get 1C to fix it. I am still holding loosley crossed fingers that it is magically fixed in 4.2 patch. This would be after I have been told it was a driver problem.

Radeon 9800 Pro get this all the time. I also think that my card may have suffered from a bad fan. It realy got hot once and now I am having trouble with flickers that I have never had before. Installed a new artic cooler for it to keep it cool. Maybe you can talk to them about there cooling needs. Oh, and I never over clocked it

I tried it too but strangly I don't have this text bug issue on my X800 Pro and AMD64 system.

If you say Artillery this counts AAA guns too right?

I flew low over the Crimea airfield in a P47 and there are many AAA guns on that field, all ground explosions all around me but the text was still appearing normally.

lol I'm not saying it's Intels fault, I was showing the CPU usage in a X2 Dual Core vs Intel with HT. I had the screen shot laying around from the current beta when testing so I posted it.

Again guys it has nothing to do with CPU, don't concern yourselves on that

Same problem here although i knew it for a while
i thought this was introduced with 4.01m?

this texture bug seem to happen randomly with explosions on the ground, mostly arty rounds impacts are the cause for it, but sometimes i have a huge ground battle going on and all is fine

btw i've had this bug on all Cat and Omega drivers i've used, omega 5.6 cat 5.7, 5.8, 5.9

I also had this problem .
It started for me with the 4.01 beta patch.
The real 4.01m didn,t solve the problem.
After resetting Effects =1 things were nomal.
But occasionally I see flickering in the sky, also on some tracks when explosions happen.

I use an X800 pro, 256 mb.http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/uitsnede3.jpg

Hi PF_Coastie,
I too have this same problem when flying above artillery ground: Words become blocking, flight-over map turns in kind of chess-board. When we had in the past problems with the cat 5.1 (patch 3.04 I filled in an ATI-form and uploaded some pictures to explain.
Now I should like to do the same butI can’t get this ATI-form anymore. Nor with the link you gave. Would you perhaps be so kind to explain in detail how to get this ATI-form so I can fill in and show the problem straight to ATI?

Hi all, Thanks for all those that have responded and filled out the ATI Feedback forms.

Adriaan, ATI has recently changed thier help and support pages all around and it can be quite confusing. I can no longer give a direct link to the form because it only lets you see it if you are registered now.

I would say to go to the page I linked above and go to the register/sign in section. Then after that you should be able to get to the form.

Good Luck!

I recently purchased a 9800 pro 256 built by ATI
as soon as I installd it and the 5.8 CAT(that was the latest at the time) Immediately started IL2 and the graphical corruptions abounded, slurred text, triangular lines ,checker board patterns ,thinking I had maybe a driver problem I began rolling back to earlier versions of the CAT all the way to 4.7 (this was done correctly, using driver cleaner 3 everytime),to no avail, thinking maybe it was the power supply, I tried it in another PC all together with a beefier power supply, from a 400 watt to a 550 watt, no dice then I stared a week long battle with newegg, after wich, totally disgusted, I followed their instructions and contacted the manufacturer (ATI) for service under the 3 year warranty http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif,well once again started a week long battle withthem telling me online and on the phone that the card part number didnt match, that it wasnt made by ATI,(IT SAYS BUILT BY ATI ON THE BOX), I was furious http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif,finally I get this nice guy one morning on the phone ,Rick was his name bless his little Canadian heart, and he got to the root of it said the card was bad, and since it was manufactured 1 week before I bought it the RMA dept did not yet have the part Number on file,he got me an RMA and off it went in the mail. That was 2 weeks ago and no word, never, ever again will I buy an ATI product what a night mare,I can understand manufacturers defects, they happen, but for 3 bills the customer service should be better http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

That is about the way it is with all companys when dealing with RMA's. Sad but true. I had a bad experience with VisionTek over an X800XT. Their cards carry a lifetime warranty. It took them nearly three months to return my card. So I am afraid you may not fair any better with any other company. Although I have heard of m8's sending their cards in and getting them back within two weeks. May just be luck of the draw.

It is Ok the card was supposed to be for my dad he still has his 9200, I am using a BFG FX550 and it works great in perfect mode even online although I have a good cpu and lots of ram, it was just frustrating thats all and I would hate for others to have to go through that, esspcially if they arent quite as computer literate as others if you know what I mean

I am very surprised Newegg would not exchange it for the same product because it was DOA. They have a DOA policy but I have not read it in a while and it may have changed. Sorry about your troubles but I am sure it would be similar with any major company as was said above.

Nah, 54C should be fine for your X800. It will handle it no problem, they just like to run warm. Mine has seen high sixties on occasion while overclocked with no problems (I also have a Zalman VF700 installed).

I rarely post in this thread as I have been using NVIDIA hardware since the past 2 years but you must read this post:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?q=Y&a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=9221093832&p=1 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?q=Y&a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=9221093832&p =1)

I do not know whether these drivers will work with the newer cards but you have nothing to lose since you can delete the file from your IL2FB directory any time you want.

Good luck!
