View Full Version : V1 trouble...

Yesterday in the Dutch city of Venlo an explosive was found at 7 meters depth during construction work.
Newspapers have pretty much the same story and say that a german rocket has been found.
It's probably the bomb of a V1 I guess..
WWII explosives are regularly found in holland when they start building in new places.

The bomb was taking to a site nearby and blown up by EOD guys.

Over half a century and it still made a huge explosion. Scary stuff!

Wasn't this bomb found in Blerick (close to Venlo)? It is probably a German leftover of Operation Nutcracker of '44. Some people think it is a Nebelwerfer but I think it is far too big for that.

Is it not just an SC500?

I believe the V1 had a 500kg bomb acting as the nose.
It was indeed Blerick close to Venlo.

That's certainly not a V1 payload: considering the state of oxidation of the object in the photo, the almost-sheet metal skin of the V1 payload would have disappeared already.
I suspect very much a US 1000 lb GP bomb the like of which there still must be many around Venlo. Venlo as many of you know was one of the most important Luftwaffe bomber and nightfighter bases, from the Netherland invasion to the allied forces take-over...No big surprise to find US UXO there...
