Hi guys I wonder if anyone here can help me, I've been away from the Ubisoft Flight sim for quite a few years now, Falcon 4 has been taking up all my time, Though I now want a new challenge, I have various copys of sims from Ubisoft including Pacific Fighters, Lock On and the original IL2. Now I know that Pacific Fighters and Lock on, won't work with Vista 64, or at least they wont work when I try http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I am also aware that IL2 has gone through alot of changes since that first version I got all those yrs ago. But can someone tell me if its worth buying IL2 1946, I understand it has all the previous versions and some new aircraft and missions, or am I just buying another copy of something i already have with just a few new aircraft thrown in, Which seem to be fictional. I've always been put off by what if sims, as I like things to be as real as possible. Also can someone tell me if this version will work with Vista 64 and Track IR. I know the sim has been out a while but while I wait for blackshark and the battle of britain, I need something to take up my time.

Cheers in advance

Thanks to the (ahem, enhancements ), this now works with TrackIR 6dof, can't comment on the Vista side, won't touch the thing.

Most likely it will seem a bit strange compared to Falcon, but the online community is lethal, I would recommend Il-2 for them alone.

Go ahead and buy, it's not expensive, and BoB may be a while. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Definitely worth your while to get iL2 1946. It contains all the games in one and one more patch and you are up to the latest final version. In the UK you should be able to find it for around 10 pounds.

Thanks guys, I think I will pop into town and see if I can get it, One other thing, Does 1946 include any of the pacific fighters sim, or is it Just IL2, I know you could do a merge with the originals.

It works with Vista x64 just fine. You can use this thred helping you to install the game.

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/1921070116

And I can tell you, this game is (at least for me) one and only in military flying simulation.

Enjoy!

You can add F-16 Flacon now, so go ahead and buy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

F-16 and original FB 1.0 I-16 would have made good match back in the old days.

Wellcome back to Forgotten Board.

Does it include anything do do with the European campaign (such as D-Day) and so on, preferably with a dynamic campaign? Also, my joystick has died on me, can you play this with a gamepad, or do you really need a joystick? Never tried it with a gamepad myself. Does the Pacific Fighters EP include a dynamic campaign?

Edit: Found it here for an unbelievable price:

If you're looking for the traditional ones (more like CFS3), you'd have to purchase this:

http://www.justflight.com/product.asp?pid=16

Review:

http://www.combatsim.com/htm/2004/04/boe/

On the website, it does specify that there is 'limited functionality' with 1946, as originally designed for Forgotten Battles. I have it working perfectly, but have forgotten what I did, so can't help.

GatorSub, there's community member made mission and campaign generators that will do all that
and can be configured nicely.

Does 1946 feature realistic markings (including swastikas)? I'm not an evil Nazi or anything, I just like my games to look as realistic as possible. The swastika is part of history and it's dangerous to brush it, and what it stands for, under the carpet.

Brushing it under the carpet is not what the Germans are doing though it may seem so elsewhere.

Besides, in the greater part of history that was a good luck symbol much of the world over.
Funny how things change. Words and symbols that once meant happy or other good things are
now declarations of a certain kind of sexuality, as in it used to be cool to display a
rainbow but now you can be making a statement you never intended.

It's the never intended part -- a game with a certain symbol takes on more than just a historic
and dead meaning in many places.

Note also that we don't slaughter little people or animals in IL2 which also happened in WWII.

Anyway, that's my take. Your mileage may vary.

Have a look through the downloads at Mission 4 today:

http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&c=24

You will find hakenkruz enablers.

Though personally I would recommend Il2mat as it gives historically correct weathered markings for everyone and everything including the hakencruz. A biggish download and sometimes a hassle to install and get working but well worth the effort.

It's a shame that what the Nazis did has permanently ruined it as a good luck symbol. And I completely agree with you, 'gay' used to mean 'happy', but now it's got a completely different meaning.

I've now got 1946, I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one, that's for sure!

M_Gunz
08-28-2008, 06:26 PM
Fake ones using 1930's planes, esp the biplanes. But those wings, engines, frames, etc are
superior even to the Fokker DVII with Gottingen airfoils and far superior to any Allied WWI
planes.

There's supposed to be an upcoming WWI airwar sim from Gennedich, maybe on timeline with SOW.
That being the case I'm kind of hoping to see good or even passable WWI mods for IL2.
I'm not exactly holding my breath though and the 3D studio required costs beaucoup bucks.

GatorSub1942
08-29-2008, 09:21 AM
I've been finding it a bit too easy to shoot planes down (on realistic gunnery). It seems that they only take a few hits and then burst into flames, are there any mods to increase the damage needed? Or is that covered in the latest patch (which version is IL2 1946 patched to?)

Edit: I loved the look of SoW, based on the videos on the second disk. Just wish they'd shown some dogfighting and not so many damned cockpits!

Anyone have any idea where I can get this game in Toronto, Canada?

I can't find it in any brick and mortar store or any Canadian based online retailers. US online retailers want to charge me huge shipping fees.

Anyone seen it in Toronto or know of any Canadian based online retailers that have it in stock?

Go HERE and ask, there are Canadian members in the WW's. (http://www.wingwalkers.org/Forum/viewforum.php?f=1)

Best Buy had it on sale for $20 a couple of months ago and I picked up two extra copies. If you can't find one for sale, I'll let you have one of my spares. I live near Owen Sound.

Does 1946 feature realistic markings (including swastikas)? I'm not an evil Nazi or anything, I just like my games to look as realistic as possible. The swastika is part of history and it's dangerous to brush it, and what it stands for, under the carpet. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Have a look through the downloads at Mission 4 today:

You will find hakenkruz enablers.

That utility is not working for me and I've followed all the instructions in ther readme. I click on the exe and nothing happens.

Edit: The Mat Manager isn't working either, it keeps asking me to specify my FB/PF path. I keep pointing it to the IL2 1946 folder. Doesn't this work with IL2 1946?

Edit: Ok, sorted now.

Scratch that. I just found it at another Best Buy. It seems so hard to find places with a decent PC game selection.

This Mat Manager is really confusing me. I choose my markings and sometimes they come through, sometimes they don't. The Rank marking on German aircraft isn't weathered, but the cross is, so it just looks stupid. Has anyone got a link to a in depth walkthrough for this tool? If the crosses are weathered, then I need the rank markings to be weathered as well!
