You should have tried Desert Combat for Battlefield 1942. They had those AC-130 Spectres modelled pretty good, with a minigun and 2 howitzers. Loads of fun with a good pilot.

I thought that it looked spookily realistic too.

You gotta see CoD4.

Gave me a shiver down my spine ( not in the good way mind you ).

Yes it does look very spookily realistic. I had to keep reminding myself it was not real footage. It`s not seeing the vehicles getting hit that bother me so much, but the hapless little humans running about with no hope of survival. It reminds me so much of the REAL footage I saw and once you see real people get killed it`s hard to look at a game recreation of something similar and see it as just a `game`.

Guess, we`ve entered the age were computer games are emulating real life so well that all games will soon need an 18++ certificate strictly enforced for violence.

On second glance this mod seems to be inspired by CoD4 indeed.
If I'm not completely mistaking the sounds are direct ports from it.

This is why a lot of war games like IL2 I take quite seriously, because I find it hard to play any game with the `killing` of Human beings for fun.

I kinda play such games more for the `meaning` or to `experience` a little of what the real fighters had to go through.

this is another reason why I try to avoid modern day based military games, especially the very gamey arcade ones that treat killing as `fun`.

Realistic WWII games like IL2 suit me very well. But I like stuff like MTW2 as well.

Yea, guess I take game warfare too seriously ingames, but killing, no matter what the reason, even in a game, is in my view, NOT a good thing. Nor should it be glibly trifled with. And now with ever more realistic depictions it`s becoming more important than ever to rememeber that.

Fully agreed. The mission in CoD4 was both really fascinating and morbid, and very likely inspired by several youtube videos of real life incidents. I watched some of these once, out of morbid curiousity, but now got enough of em. There are certain things I do not want to do, even in a computer game, and scenes like the ones from that gunship belong to it.
I'll pass up on that. It's getting too much of a slaughter without any risk involved, virtual or not.

Couldn't agree more ( SeaFire and Beo ).

To stay with the Call of Duty 4 example - if you remember the sniper mission ( of course you do - it's one of the bloody best game experiences I've ever well.... experienced ) - Captain Mc Millan comments on your shots ( like saying "beautifull" after you've hit a terrorist whos patroling on top of the curch tower.
That I can live with.
Can even laugh about it ( cause it's just so morbid and black ).

The AC 130 mission though... like Beo I have come across some real footage and there is a certain line I think entertainment should not cross.
If CoD4 was a simulator it may be a different thing.
Simulators are in the end made to look and feel real.
They try to deliver experience with entertainment only the second target.
CoD4 makes entertainment showing pretty realistic images of digital humans beeing blown to pieces.

Feels odd at least.
