Turn WW2 aircraft into cute girls with aircraft attachments, add plot, stir. There appears to be an "Erica Hartman" 109 and a Finnish girl/plane/whatever.

Bonus points for correct IDs of aircraft!

There are LOADS of these out there, however these ones get a show. I've seen the B-29, P-51, F-4U, F-6, P-38, Me-262, etc. I don't understand it, but it is hilarious.

The real question is how do you get "Japan" from "Nippon"?

Ernst_Rohr

And if you will actually look at all the names, the are all slightly altered (ie feminized) names of historical aces.

Erika Hartmann (Erich Hartmann, Luftwaffe)
Gertrud Barkhorn (Gerhard Barkhorn, Luftwaffe)
Sanya V. Litvyak (apparently Lilya Litvyak, VVS)
Mio Sakamoto (no japanese aces with this name)
Yoshika Miyafuji (no japanese aces with this name)
Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke (Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke, Luftwaffe)
Lynette Bishop (best guess is Lewis Bishop, AVG)
Charlotte E. Yeager (Chuck Yeager, USAAF)
Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen (Eino Juutilainen, Finland)
Perrine H. Clostermann (Pierre Clostermann, Free French AF)

LEBillfish

A response from IsamuM some time ago on the j-aircraft.com forums....

"Kelly, it could be either Nihon or Nippon. Japanese is flexible in the pronunciation of some words/kanji. In addition, both Nihon and Nippon can be used as nouns or adjectives.

In regular use, Nihon is more common. When greater emphasis is desired (e.g., rooting for a Japanese team in a sport), however, Nippon is often used, probably because it is easier to emphasize. Example: Gambare Nippon! which can be loosely translated as "Go Japan!" or "Bear down, Japan!"

And, I believe that the official term for the IJAAF would be Dai-Nippon/Dai-Nihon Teikoku Rikugun Kokutai (literally, Great Japan Imperial Army Air Corps)."

As to how do you get Japan out of Nippon, I'd suppose it's just like any language where a term is applied to a nation or race from your own language then sticks.....Like Germany out of Deutschland.

Never the less, one of the oldest terms I can find in the "English" language (from late 1600's) pertains to any number of very high quality varnishes and lacquers. Though actually in many cases coming from China, these were called "Japan, or Japanning". Types of furniture and goods that utilized this very high quality process came from that part of the world......After that most terms using Japan as part of the word shift starting in the late 1800's, yet all describing the Nation.....

So, I "assume" Japan was the English term applied to the product and stuck so long was soon applied to the nation and peoples being how they knew or related to the Island. So if true, arrogance by the English speakers not using the "Japanese language term" sticking with their own.....and possibly generous on the part of the Japanese understanding the western Barbarians incapacity to learn. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

All just guessing and assumption though.

It is very common, like Hellas/Greece (!), Suomi/Finnland, Deutschland/Germany and so on.
We call France "Gallia" in "Greek" so it is not just an english language phenomenon. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

"Japan" actually comes from some Malaysian language derivative of Chinese.

When Portuguese and English explorers first went to the West Indies, the people they met would refer to a nation called "Japan", who was practically unknown to the West at the time.

It, as always, depends on who wrote the history books
Japan vs. Nippon

The Japanese refer to their country as "Nippon" or "Nihon". These two names apparently have their origin in the words "place from where the sun rises".

The designation "place from where the sun rises" translates into Chinese characters which can be read either as "Nippon" or "Nihon". Both readings are in general use today. However, "Nippon" is the more common choice in formal matters.

There are two possible origins of "Japan"

1)One is these names come from "Zipangu" or "Jipangu" which are Portuguese attempts at pronouncing "Jihpenkuo", the name for Japan used in northern China.

2) The other has it that they come from the Dutch "Japan" taken from "Yatpun", the name for Japan used in Southern China. Dutch being a Germanic language, the 'j' is pronounced like a 'y'

German vs. Deutsch
One of the larger tribes had been called the 'Teutons', i.e. 'teutonic' and the related adjectives 'teutsch' (mediaeval) and 'deutsch' or 'te desca' (italian).

'German' is of Latin origin. Posidonius, is the first to have used the name, around 80 BC, in his lost 30th book. Knowledge of this is based on the 4th book of Athenaeus, who in ca. AD 190 quotes Posidonius as saying that "The Germani at noon serve roast meat with milk, and drink their wine undiluted", and is thought to be a loan from the Celtic name for the Germanic tribe There is a Latin adjective germanus (from germen, "seed" or "offshoot"), which has the sense of "related" or "kindred" If the proper name Germani derives from this word, it may refer to the Roman experience of the Germanic tribes as allies of the Celts

LMAO......men are so easily hypnotized with a little flash, even just something so close they just know any second they'll be able to see. In fact, I bet you the first thing most men do with those dolls is tip them up to see if they can see up their skirts.......

As it "should be".....

Frankly I only find it reasonable and fair.....What is unfair is how women deny men their power over them essentially forcing men to become sneaky little weasels forcing them to hide every curiosity, desire or vice they have....Worse still most women even take it further to try and force other women to not be as they should, so they don't have to compete and then become even worse and unfair towards men.

Have at it guys, you deserve it......

It's BS the way in your everyday lives how women have worked things in society today to make men whiney, sniveling, begging wimps....Desperate for any shred of titillation....Then worst of all state "You used to be more, now you're a wimp, I want a real man".....Why?.....So they can do the same to them the man they just beat down that way due to them.

Well it's simple......All things in this world are balanced. From the cave man days on, females have had the "sexual power"....Men the "physical"......So way back when if a man wanted "attention" (sex) he'd club the woman and take it...If he wanted consistent receptive attention he'd be a good provider/protector.

Yet that left the world imbalanced....So, civilization takes hold.....Women still having their power males genetically driven to them, yet men's power with laws (late 1800's) shifted to being a good companion/provider/protector....So balanced, each having something the other wants, to get it having to offer up what they had.

However, some women started feeling they had "less then men" as far as authority or value....A big part of that men trying to control women in an unbalanced way, others women trying to do the same.....So, on and on till finally......

Women have the same opportunities as men, can hold the same jobs, make the same money, are protected by law and basically shifted all power to them as they now hold not only their own power but the mans as well.........So, no need to compromise, and sadly for most, give the man his due for his efforts.

In the end, the only way a man is left to get what he wants....Is to break the law, beg, hope the woman is generous...whatever having no power to be exchanged as she has the ability to have his but not him hers.

In kind, other women condemn those women trying to force them to conform to this all or nothing attitude, by slamming on those women that use their original power, that of sexuality to grant that fair exchange....Hence cutting the men off cold from any avenue they may have.

What does that leave men with?....Nothing, they must beg, plead, sneak etc. to get what they want even a taste/look at of (porn).......Lastly, and this struck me the other night seeing some show like 20/20 or some such, that the reason there seems to be so many internet predators on children is not only that it is easier for them now....Yet that many "probably" are not (and speaking in a hetro sense).....Are not except they look and try finding no adult females responsive to how they are, yet suddenly find young ignorant girls, who are receptive to their flirtations, and then stupidly pursue it further as they cannot find women of age to be receptive to them in a "balanced" way....The youngsters not clued in yet on how to abuse it besides their own hormones raging.

So.......Unfair to men, probably putting the innocent at risk wherein otherwise they would not be except by true predators....and quite simply BS for all involved.

So what power "should" a man be left with, obviously clubs and dragging by the hair unfair, yet no power at all as well.......Well, women need to be "appreciative" of the things men do. Contribute to the household income with their own work yet acknowledge the man as the bread winner. Realize that just because there are laws against assault, it doesn't mean they can mouth off to men say in a bar....that push come to shove he can flatten you, so your defense your mans job not your attorneys.....and what about the man who IS a gentleman, he deserves credit for that! Lastly, if you don't want your man looking elsewhere then get off your lazy azz and make yourself more desirable then all others....and looks have little to do with it though a little EFFORT goes a long way....As most men will tell you "all show and no go is BS".....So perform and try to look how your man likes if you want to keep him point blank.

Stupid thing is it doesn't take much, men unlike us women are easily satisfied and honestly more reasonable most of the time.....It just hacks me off not at the men but how women have made it unfair and imbalanced so we live in this PC BS world.

This is getting way off topic but really makes me mad......I guess my point was the giggling, sneaking, and wondering how far things could be pressed before PC kicks in I just find bunk. But it's what women have unfairly forced on men....But nature has its ways, it will backfire one day....Sadly I'll probably not see it yet nature insists, everything be in balance.

Ahh well sorry for the tirade.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Hmm I am sure Bill can think of another word begining with 'C' to describe me and it aint got nothing to do with courage. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

To be honest, although I understand where Bill is coming from when she makes her point I am not entirely sure that it would be percieved as liberaly if it had been made by a male member of the community.

Porn and Perversion of one kind or another have been around a lot longer than the 'emancipation' of women and the evolution of the term Political Correctness. I myself am a firm believer of the principal 'if you dont ask you probably wont get'.

Whilst I agree that the traditional macho male role has been renderd somewhat redundant with the advent of air conditioning, telephones, cars, Vogue magazine, soap dispensers, cushions, chocolate, and the media illusion of men that 'give a sh1t what women want' and 'know how to cry when bambies mom gets plugged'. Men are for all that predominantly the same old cave dwellers we always were we are just a little bit better at hiding it.

Personaly I think it is a little far fetched to say that certain gross sexual acts are comited as a response to the devaluation of male Hunter provider role.

True men do have to work a little harder to 'get some' but the bottom line is that some men are just plain freaking preverts and no amount of understanding is going to un-prevertify them without the necessary application of around 220 volts to the testoidal loading zone.

Now you can make of that what you will but me I am too damed stuck in my ways to go buggering around trying to get all bloody 'tell me how you feel' about it. And frankly I like a good pair of T1T'ies and a large whisky, regular attention with food and conversation as an added bonus.

For that I will rip the head of any MAN that so much as looks sideways, talks dirty or even hints at having intentions toward my woman. Women are of course welcome to do so however I have learned that they are unlikely to get anywhere.

In exchange for aforementiond gratification I will, with a small amount of coercion guilt tripping and possibly violence , gladly relinquish my pay check, ferry them around at will and occasionaly listen to her parents and female freinds ,specificaly the mother in law whome is a more mature and experienced version of my wife with the advantage of not being half bad looking either.

In closing next time you see a group of men try this

Stare some where behind the group and Declare loudly 'Look at the size of those!' I garuntee that it will be a rare occasion in a Gay bar that heads are not turned in the direction you look.

I hope that has clarified my position on this subject and if nothing else its made me thirsty and as it has been at least six seconds scince the last time I thought about 'IT' a tad *****.

Well the point of my tantrum was not to condemn men for their words or actions yet women over the last really 50 years that have gone out of their way to not just gain equal footing, yet gain an advantage......In truth homes, cars, everything now costs what it does as a family is not looked upon as having a single income, yet two.......Naturally you'll often hear from wives working how "my mother never had to work....so my man's a lazy bum" forgetting it is due to women working that doubled the costs, yet naturally not the wages.

Yet not the point.........The point being what is natural. Men will be men, women, women, and that should be understood and cherished.....

However, what upsets me is how imbalanced it has become...Forcing men to either be groveling, begging wimps.....Or to the other extreme over compensating and "almost" justifiably hating women......Like the pics above. All the "tee hee's" and then analysis simply a PC hedging at what one is thinking. Personally I feel often hesitant to join in some threads here as I don't want to curb the fun. "Generously", most of the men here very respectful, and actually very kind to not want to offend the women here.

Frankly however I say, what's the problem?....The only possible one being the many minors. Never the less there is hope, the few women not catching onto the new age of "the beast man" missing out so too bad for them.

Ex.
I cannot count the times my husband has held a door open for a woman, and she either looks at him like he is about to attack her, OR, like he is some worm that had "better" hold it open never saying a word in either case.

Now, truth be known he is lean (only 5'11" 150#), always a kind word, soft spoken and a gentleman to old world standards.....In truth he is a dangerous brute to degree's I'll not elaborate on.....Yet he has been fortunate learning that power means he can afford humility and I myself have never been treated with anything less then....well there is not words for it...by him....Suffice to say I view the man for more reasons then I can count as nothing short of a God, Island Oleg a far second http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Anywho.....One of the rare nights we were in public at a real bar with some other friends not security, everyone was joking it up and on occasion (more often then should perhaps) the four letter words were let lose, YET in context with the discussions not meant to be vulgar or insulting........About a half hour later a number of "wanna be" rough customers rolled in, and trying to be impressive (or more to deceive any threat) started with their loud talk even more lewd, rude and vulgar....Yet to simple be as such.

Then, their talk not responded to shifted to comments about Sarah, Karen and I, yet instantly at the first curse word was responded to. Tom (one of the guys at our table) suddenly stood without a word, walked over, bent down and whispered to the men all much larger then he, my husband simply taking on his "oh I so miss this" look and looking to his drink dying to rise.

Though I will never know what was said, bragging not the norm here, in short order the men rose, appologized to our table and left.....Now on to the point of this long winded story;

Karen Sarah and I for the balance of the night AS SHOULD BE, and though never said by him to my husbands pride by his beaming, turned our attentions to Tom for the balance of the night. It was his due, he earned it, he did not make a show of what he felt needed to be done, nor did he ask for credit........But he was "DUE".....

So, though that an extreme, even a door held, or standing when one that you want to impress enters a room, or a bazillion other seemingly insignificant things are done....Men DESERVE that appreciation, that admiration....For either their power, respect, somtimes power coming in the form of restraint (in my case often not flattening me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)...Yet in any case they deserve to be men and honored for it when they are.

It just erks the h*ll out of me how women have forced men to be simpering wimps....So much so it becoming habit for many because they have been forced into it.......I guess it just bugs me.

Yet as I hope I've shown in the past here, begging doesn't cut it nor does trying to get tough with me as I'm a mean old bi*ch.....yet a bit of balance both ways is nothing short of fair.......

So I guess the moral being....Don't "tee'hee" then try and justify some upskirt pic that doesn't verge on influencing kids......I just see it as natural, and enjoy every aspect of the "balance of power".

Guess it just makes me mad most men have been made to feel they have to be that way.......Guess I could have said that as a one liner but ah well http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif I've read all your posts Bill, but I still don't understand you completely.

Are you saying that women are using their sexual power to get into a position of advantage against men?

Ooo that reminds me of a story I read in a paper once. This secretary woman had the hots for her boss, him being married with children. Anyhoo, one night she decides to make her move, givin him a taste of tongue. He backs away, rejecting her and saying hes a happy married man. So, because he didn't want her (how dare he!), she moved half the companies money into his back account and got him fired! What a freakin *****, that sort of stuff really gets me angry!

i like your presence here in so many ways - you're ddg but so what? looks aren't everything (said by someone who doesn't have any) what makes you enjoyable is your intellect. you TEACH me new things when it comes to Japanese aircraft. I don't always agree with you but i RESPECT your opinions and enjoy the discourse.

You statements about empowering/disempowering make some valid points and it's refreshing to hear.

But we have to deal with the real world and all it's PC-ness which is nothing more than a way to guilt yourself into a position of power at the expense of someone else. I'm reminded of the old joke "I am for equal rights for <fill in the blank> but I'm not sure they're willing to give any up.

So many people are set in their ways, we've become so polarized that we don't ALLOW another view. so sad... I am a believer in Voltaire's I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. it's so sad that the thought posse doesn't allow others to disagree.

anywho - this is an INTERESTING thread.
thanx all
