With that system they do?

Ok. Work with me here, I'm going to ask a few questions...

1. What video card drivers
2. What settings in the Display Prop. Tabs
3. OpenGL or DirectX
4. Do you use/have Riva Tuner?
5. What settings in IL2Setup.exe ? (conf.ini)
6. What resolution is screen? Game? What color depth?

I have a system SIMILAR to yours, and I get about 27 FPS in Perfect, and about 35 in Excellent - all at about 500 meters, during the day, with clouds, flying over either base in cockpit view.

My FPS up high is over 40 in either case, and looking straight up, it maxes out at 85 (tied to refresh rate).

This post MAY get moved to Tech Support, but let's try to optimize what you have, and then see if the trees are the problem.

They don't hurt my system.

Don't take this the wrong way...

You and I have no business running Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering with our video card.

nvidia drivers 45.23
OpenGL
no riva tuner
Refresh rate set to 85hz also.
Excellent settings
Using hunter82s config.ini sound settings
AntiAliasing set to application
Anisotropic set to 2x

Hmmm.
Check out RivaTuner at guru3d.com

I've successfully (and safely) OC'd on the Hardware level and I get about 7 more FPS out of my card. I figure any lifespan altering actions it might have on my card would be YEARS in the future, and I'd have a new card by then anyways.

It also handles refresh rates, too, easy and clean to install, small (miniscule) TSR footprint (runs from HKLM). There's some other settings too that you can set.

What is your Aperture size? Try 128MB, 64MB

Fast ReWrites? Try with on; then with off.

Are you caching any BIOS or anything? Don't! Don't shadow BIOS, either.

I'd be interested in seeing your conf.ini.

Download Fraps and get a benchmark.

Then...

DISABLE SOUND (back up your conf.ini first) and do the benchmark again.

The trees on Online 8 shouldn't be THAT much of a hit unless you do a LOT of flying at 50 meters all the time (and dogfighting).

yeah..i have set my AGP aparture size to 128 (same as my vid card). Setting it to 64 lowers FPS. Nothing in my bios is cached. Disabling sound has no hit on FPS. Game runs pretty smooth on all levels except that pacific map with all those palm trees. My vid card is stock clocked. No overclocking.

Same here even the reduced palms in 1.2 rc 01 still cause a major drop in fps when flying low level and zoomed, I really hope they reduce the polys of the actual palm map item, its really needed

hit the Delete key when your computer is booting up..in your BIOS option screen you'll see a AGP Aperture= ? . Set this number the same as your video card RAM size.
