I'm near New York. I destroyer comes in so I dive. Can't shack him, sea is to shallow. So think sod it. I know about collision in this game. If you go ramming speed to a ship, normally you sink. But if you go periscope depth. Let them come in for an attack run. Scrap your tower, maybe damaging it beyond repair will 9 times out of 10, sink the destroyer and just leave you with a broke tower.

So I slow up, then full back, then stop and let the destroyer hit the tower. The front end of the destroy comes out the water and goes in the air a few feet. GOD DARN IT WORKED!

But would you count it as cheating? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I then surface. Darn, another destroyer coming up from behind fast. I go periscope depth again. Slow up. Go quite. Starts pinging me even though engines are off. Darn. So again think sod it. He comes in for the attack run. Scrapes the tower, but drops charges. They miss, then he carries on. Thinking he survived but no. Wa hey, he starts sinking, but look, the guy on the search lights just won't give up. Not even under water http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A bug me's thinks.

Yeah, wouldn't happen in reality but I wouldn't call it cheating.. it's just not modelled right in the game. So, I guess using a known loophole could be called 'gamey'

Fun to watch though! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hopefully the devteam will fix things like this in a future patch. Lets hope it comes soon.

By the way, what's up with this forum? It is sooo slow.. it's like using a freakin' modem..

Is it 'cheating'?
If the DevTeam actually meant to have this possibility, NO.
I don't think they did, but they could have.
If they didn't mean for this to be possible, it is a 'cheat', possible due to the lack of testing of this situation.

A bug me's thinks. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>If the light is still 'searching' for you, DEFINITELY.
Unless the crewman directing it happens to be wearing a scuba suit!

Did the light stop 'searching'?
If it did, it's NOT a bug. Just because the ship is sinking doesn't mean the power to the light is cut off. It will still be lit for minutes/hours/days.

Technically, it's not cheating. But it's 'gaming' the system which I reckon is as bad.

I did it once by accident, and then I did it a few more times in test conditions to see if it was a legitimate bug, but if real U-Boats didn't do it, then I'd never knowingly do it in a campaign.

Is it cheating ? Yes, in a multiplayer game you would be a low down dirty cheat lol.

But since you are only cheating yourself it doesnt matter. If you have fun doing it more power to you, if it leaves you thinking "****, that was lame, i just cheated myself out of a wicked cat and mouse with 2 destroyers" dont do it.

Whoa... there's another creepy thought! A sunken ship with dead people in it sitting on the bottom of the ocean, beaming it's light in to the eternal night down there. The thought of diving anywhere near it gives me the willies. Call me a wimp, but ghosts ships alway get to me! *shudders*

It's not a cheat, per se, it's an exploit of the game design. I wouldn't do anything in the game that makes it unrealistic.

An exploit like this needs fixed.

But, is it an exploit? Or is it designed to be this way?

An easy fix is not letting the escorts ram you.

I would class it as a "discovered cheat".

definition of the word:
A cheat is anything that helps you to win by unfair means.

was it unfair?

I think it was LOL.

If it's broke, don't fix it. Pretend it's not there. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Anyone tried ramming a battleship?

Sounds reasonable to me.

Also, I don't think the spotlight guy was worrying about the electric bill when his ship started sinking. He left the light on and bailed overboard. As long as the light is getting juice from batteries or something, and the bulb doesn't break, It should work for a while under water? Ever see a submerged car with it's lights on? I think even in the movie Titantic there were some lights on underwater for a while. That's a movie, but I think it's possible...

OK http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
As long as it's in the BOOK!!http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/hauitsme/RTFM.gif

But the question remains: Is it designed to be this way, or is it an exploit ?

Its def a bug 'cause they were both still searching for me. Funny thing is, when the rear light would spot me. The front light, underwater, would come on and begin searching. Basically even though the front of the ship had sunk due to running into my conning tower, it hadn't registered that the ship was basically dead. It was still classed as alive. So I had to take the deck gun to it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would call it a bug, and if you use it to take out destroyers then i would call it using exploit to win, which totally defeats purpose of this sim. However, I know sometimes you just cant avoid the destroyers.

I really hope they fix this so that the conning tower is either totally destroyed etc...

Call it what you will: <UL TYPE=SQUARE> <LI>'cheating' <LI>'exploiting' <LI>'gaming' <LI>'a bug' [/list]

Both need fixed. Period.

If you exploit this CHEAT, more power to you.

Just don't expect any respect/kudos from any 'sim' diehards.
But don't despair!
You'll get plenty from the 'arcade' players.
