Not a bug (yet):
When I started the game today through the UPlay client, it says "allocating disk space".
The blue progress indicator progresses VERY SLOWY, as if it had to download the whole game again.
The bandwidth indicator in downloads stays on 0 B/s, but the free disk space of my storage HDD went up and down by about 10 GB.
After 10 minutes, progress is about 60%.

Hi Manarak3! Welcome to the forums. We do have this FAQ (https://support.ubi.com/en-US/faqs/000018807/Trouble-Downloading-via-UPlay-PC-Client/) available for download issues through the Uplay client. Can you clarify how much space is on your HDD currently? Is this the same HDD that Uplay is on?

For a 175mbyte ish update.. it had to allocate _40GB_ of space!!!! I hope you are not planning to do updates like this when the game is released :s

And yes, its on the same drive, a SSD drive, but that shouldn't matter.. This is just bad :s

Hi Geck01986. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you for the report! Were you able to install the update?

Same thing here. Taking longer than 10 minutes to get to not even 25% though.

Same problem here. The update took about 20 minutes to finish..
Download: ~1 minute
Allocating disk space: ~19 minutes

I noticed the same problem with the pre-load.

Same issue here with the 'Allocating disk space' issue. glad someone else has posted this, as this was the reason for me coming to the forums :)

Second day on the run it has done the same thing:

Yesterday it took roughly 22 minutes to finish 'allocating' then patched approx 145MB in under 30 seconds..
Today it has taken 17 minutes to allocate, then under 30 seconds to download and apply a 178.12MB patch.

I have over 120GB free space on the drive Anno is installed onto, so cache etc isn't an issue. During the allocating I can hear the HDD working stupidly hard, to the point it actively slows down all other loading on my machine.

Can you guys clarify if you installed Anno in the default location, or if you moved it to a different drive/spot?

Getting the same issue, I installed it to a selected folder on my HDD (not enough space on SSD)

@Crustaa Is Uplay also installed on that HDD? I assume that your SSD would be the default location in that case, since you had to change it to the HDD, correct?

Same issue here. Uplay and anno 1800 is installed on the same HDD. on the default file.

@Belemchou Can you try running Uplay as an Admin (https://support.ubi.com/en-GB/Faqs/000025662/Run-applications-with-administrator-rights/) on your PC?

It does the same for me, wants to allocate disk space again but my ssd doesnt have enough space available for another 40GB allocated for such a small update. Uninstalling and redownloading works.
My Uplay and Game Install are on 2 different SSDs

Same here,.

UPlay and Anno are on the same HDD (no SSD) and Windows 10 Tasks Manager shows 60% to 90% disk usage durig the 10 minutes (or so) allocating disk space.
No Internet usage during this time.

@michelr1972 Are you able to run Uplay as an Admin on your PC?

It's Windows Defender scanning all the files, add an exception for it and the waiting will be solved.

If you ever experience such thing again in any game, check task manager and your Disk usage will be 100% by Anti Malware Executable which is the Defender file reading the whole game file.

@UbiSailorScout : Yes, but since it appears only on first launch, i'll tell you tomorrow ;)

@PuR3OwNaG31990 : I don't think so (here at least), i did not see any CPU usage during the process.

That was a typo and supposed to be Disk usage, will correct it.

To elaborate more into why it happens.

Windows Defender makes a temporary file of every file the game has to scan.
This is why your system is processing the full 40gb again.

Ok, thanks for correction, i'll try that then ! ;)

No problem, editted my previous post with more information incase anyone wonders why it exactly happens.

It happens with many games and it's very easy to tell by the Disk Usage and Anti Malware Executable which are affected, by like, Anno 1800.

Just Exclude launcher in Windows Defender and it should work smooth.
