Hello guys, I' m new to this forum but I' ve been playing SH3 for a while now. I have a problem with the flak gun: when I order it to fire at medium range or at long range, it doesn't fire at short range. Of course in this way I only score a couple of planes per round! It is copletely stupid to fire at long range only, when the bomber is over your head! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gifThanks

It's not a 'long reload' time that is in some Mods that might be effecting this. So the gunner/you fires off a magazine and then you have a cup of coffee while it reloads ??

Actually it takes some time to reload...but I think it is natural. Also: Many times the planes dive in order to attack, but they don't throw bombs or depth charges...they just dive!

The funniest I' ve seen with the planes: One time two planes collided in the air, and both went down. They did two times my flak-gunner's job!

No! this is not reality. It's realy a oversight in the Mod.
I've changed a 20mm magazine in under 5 seconds (yank the eject lever, hit the empty mag out - jam the new one in and c.o.c.k it[ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Spell checker is sexually offended by reloading] ), and I've known others to reload a howitzer in 15-20 secs.

Have a look at http://www.subsim.com for all the mods.

I am new to SH3, but so far I haven't used the Flak Gun, other than to shoot at Seagulls. I figure there is little to gain and much to lose by shooting it out with aircraft, so I dive and get out of there. Am I missing something, or should I stand my ground more? I could be wrong, a more experienced player please correct me.

Isn't Doenitz paying us to sink ships and not airplanes?

I hear ya HerrCue, but sometimes you have to fight it out. It happened to me last week. I had two ships I disabled sitting dead in the water and I was out of torps. I surfaced to finish them with the deck gun and as I sunk the T3 and turned my attention to the C3 I got the aircraft spotted message.
I was in a type IXC and had no time for a safe dive so I manned the flak guns. It turned out to be a single PBY and it screamed into attack. My dual 20mms took him out but not before his strafing took out both my AA gunners and my 1WO. His bombs exploded harmlessly astern.
The deck gun crew was safe and continued to pound the C3 until it sank and I replaced my dead guys with more live ones in case another A/C showed up. It didn't but I still sacrificed two AA gunners (not that big a deal) and my highly decorated/experienced XO (that hurt, he was very valuable).
So the moral of the story is stand your ground only when the only other option is certain deathhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
