Decided to have a fly on warclouds the other day. Been a while. Took a Spitfire IX Lf and boosted off for height. There was a dogfight going on nearby, but it was one of those days where I felt somewhat untouchable and started day dreaming as I climbed alone.

Something appeared in my rear view, I turned lazily to see better behind and saw a giant 190 filling my screen behind me! He had me! He shot past me and away. I gave chase, but he was too fast and was extending away. I decided to try the oldest trick in the book.

"The old 190 runnning away routine. Nothing changes." I tapped into the chat bar.

The 190 came back. Tried to turn fight and lost his advantage. I shot him till he was smoking. He quit even before his plane was really destroyed.

And the moral of the story is:

When you are doing something right, NEVER let the enemy taunt you into doing something wrong. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

oh yea, and don`t day-dream, that 190 should`ve got me on it`s first strike!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

You couldn't be anymore right on this matter! I fly Hellcats with a wingmate of mine and we use the classic energy team tactics on him. None of us ever mix it up with a Zero. One extends away while the other jumps on the Zero's six. We did this constantly to one guy and he goaded us into going into a dogfight with him. We didn't fall for it and we kept our strategy. If we did we'd have been playing on his terms.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yep I can vouch for this...I downed a P-47 and P-51 at 6.5K on WC today. The pilot failed to do the most basic of tasks and that was to check thier 6'oc every 5 seconds. I was sneaking up on them for about 40sec before I opened fire.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I love it when a FW-190 looks at my big bulky P-38 after botching the 1st pass due too my air brakes and thinks too himself "You know, im SURE I can out-turn this big twin engine beast" and I see them turning in for a little dance. My reply, "Yummm. Easy meat!"

Its amazing how many FW's will trade there alt and speed away and try and dance with a P-38. Every time I think one is smart, they turn around for a go. I dont even NEED to taunt them!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Sometimes you have an excuse though.

I was on HISTORIA II the other day with one team-mate, who happened to be Russian. He told me his English was not good, then proceeded to send me cryptic one-word messages in his mother tongue. (I'd told him I was English). I got bounced in my P-38 by a FW-190 while flicking through one of my Russian phrasebooks trying to translate. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Some folks get really offensive in chatbar when they see that they can't catch up an extending 190 in their spit. Poor display of character. I don't care if it's a "trick" to lure someone in. It's a stupid conduct and tells me a lot about that person.

Probably true, but, it's probably also true that Boyington himself started said legend.

LOL...ironically, I was on a popular server the other day and was criticized by the BLUES for flying high and avoiding the 2k turn-fight in my Jug...didn't fall for it.

At least not until I was ready to give up my altitude advantage to help a buddy trying to fight off three of them on the deck. Bottom line though, it was my choice. I don't fall for those childish jedi mind-games. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

OK, this`ll probably go over some people`s heads. But I find that when playing against a human adversary/s on the net, it`s ALL about mind games, ie, psyching out your opponent one way or another to eventually win.

I`ve noticed it many times, especially if I end up in a 1 on 1 dogfight.

Real war is also alot about deception and psching people out too. Sun Tsu says so himself as well as others. It`s just another form of war. This is what makes the difference between online and offline. You can`t play mind games with the the AI.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

In my experience, attempts by the enemy to goad are a fairly reliable indication that you're using good tactics.

Of course, then there's always scope for the double bluff...

Personally I try to remind myself that IRL there was a language barrier and just get on with my flying.

Hence why I don't read the chat bar in the big open dogfight servers. Too much stupid garbage spilling over.. Time warped me back to my days playing Quake Team Fortress.

I just had one of those on Warclouds too, but I was the one being taunted.....

I was in a Spit on the deck being dragged across the line chasing a 190. When I saw someone in the distance on the blue side of the line, I thought the best of it and headed by to friendly territory to get some altitude.

190 to me: "Spit - you're running away ! COWARD !"

Me (thinking): Yup

Got back my alt and took out a JU-88 that was trying to bomb red targets.

DON'T FALL FOR IT !

I get that as well.

I was on another popular server, on a cross channel map that was literally so packed with Spitfires you couldnt lob a dead cat without clipping a squadron of them. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Fight was mostly spits and 109's down LOW, like a couple of hundred meters off the waves/deck, at best.

I motored on in a 190, since blue was seriously outnumbered. Was at 3k, and was watching the tracer light show down below. Dove down, picked a spit chasing a 109, boomed him, splashed him, and exited the fight at 500+ kph. His buddies all called me a chicken/coward/sneak ect.

My response in chat;

"You say that like its a bad thing!" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I just kept making high speed passes over the top of the fight, and when a target of oppurtunity showed up, I boomed in and gave him a proper kicking, then fled like a scared school girl. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Well it all depends on the situation at the time CUDA. I never engage if I'm co-E with P-38s period, I only engage if mine is higher.

But yesterday I downed two P-38's within 3 minutes, they were flying formation low and fast and heading for ground targets, I had the height advantage. First to go was the wingman, blew off his tail; next was the lead, I blew the left wing off. All the while they were turning for dear life using the airbrake manouver, but while they were turning I knew I couldn't match that turn so I chose to Hi Yo-Yo which allowed me to maintain angels.
