We all know that D:PL was the first Driver game to have customization. And I have to say, it was decent (considering how it was the first time they did it). But I was expecting it to be just as deep as Midnight Club 3's. So here are some ideas for road vehicle customization that I have that should make it into the next Driver game:

Paint each and every seperate internal and external part (body, windows, rims, interior, etc) with any color in the world

Change rims
Change tires
Customize license plates (states and lettering)
Nitrous-Oxide for faster speeds
Change the drivetrain
Change the engine
Customize all the sides by making custom paint jobs, stripes, flames, or decals
Instalable neons
Instalable hydraulics
Change the horn
Get the vehicle fixed (if damaged)
Get an oil change
Get the tires rotated
Get a refill on gas
Get the vehicle washed
Change the brake intensity
Change the suspension
Change the shocks
Change the tire and rim size
Get parts for the interior of your ride (snake eyes, airfresheners, ashtrays, etc)
Remove parts (if you want to downgrade your ride)
Change the front and rear bumpers
Change the grilles
Lower or raise your ride hight
Change the music system on your ride (radio, 8-track player, Cassette player, CD player, etc)
Bullet-proof glass
Bullet-proof tires

OK, I think this would be the deepest in customization if it happened. I hope it happens. What ideas do you have for vehicle customization?

Personally, I think all car games nowadays NEED vehicle customization, and it BETTER happen in ALL future Driver games.

Driverman2006,

Great list. You're right, the next Driver MUST have vehicle customization for increased replay value and to make the game more fun. Who doens't want to play a driving game with their 'dream vehicle'?

Midnight Club 3 is a great example of vehicle customization and vehicle selection. What's interesting, they have licensed vehicles that become damaged in-game.

I'd like to be able to customize ALL vehicles equally, including sportbikes, 18 wheelers, formula one's, aircraft, etc, much like DPL allowed.

Every part should allow for color painting as well, so if we add a spoiler, we can either match it to the rest of the car, or change the color.

For gas stations, they could offer instant "vehicle repair" when you fill up at the pump, and if you have the "GAS" option ON, you could refill your tank as well.

And another thing, ALL garages, gas stations, and car washes should be functionable (as well as enterable) for customization (although limited to what they service). It sucks how in D:PL you can only get your rides customized at Ray's Auto Shops and no where else, but the game did have gas stations and other auto shops (that you couldn't enter, nor get your rides customized at).

Good point. All the Driver games seem to have gas stations with ZERO purpose other than decoration, like the countless buildings (excluding the enterable ones in Driv3r).

One idea: Pulling into a gas station to fill up the car's "Health Fuel" would put the vehicle back to its peak performance, for a quick getaway. The gas garages could be used for customizing the car specifically without having to run back to Ray's auto halfway across the map.

Without car customization, the game will lose replay value. It's worth Reflections' effort to go the extra mile and include it, only more detailed like Midnight Club 3.

Indeed. Take a look at L.A. Rush, that game did have customization, although it was at the barest minimum and people wanted more. The thing with L.A. Rush is that you take your ride into West Coast Customs, and they pimp it out for you, you can't customize it yourself. Midway actually wanted to do it this way (because they wanted to make it an "Arcade" racer, and not like Need for Speed or Midnight Club 3), no wonder why L.A. Rush got such low/mediocre scores, all because of lousy customization.

I'd like to see a customizable trinket that can hang from the center rearview mirror. A SEGA driving game from the 90's featured a Sonic trinket hanging from the mirror, bouncing around in-dash view, as the car drove, windshield wipers pushing away the rain drops.

No, I don't remember a game like that unfortunatly.

In the new Midnight Club game (Midnight Club: Los Angeles for the PS3 and XBOX 360), I heard that the customization is going to be deeper than in Midnight Club 3. I wonder what new stuff will be in there, and I hope the next Driver has even deeper!

Like I said, customization should always come standard in a car game. That's why Stuntman: Ignition isn't going to be the greatest. OK, tell you the truth, I haven't heard anything about customization in that game, but still, if there's no customization, it's going to get lower scores (or it will be mentioned as a "con"). I hope Stuntman: Ignition has customization, I wish the first one had it too.

One reason I don't play much of the stuntman series is due to the lack of freedom, being forced to take the same path over and over till it's right. Too frustrating, and not a good showcase for vehicle customization.

MC4:LA should be a great game, looking forward to it. The sense of speed is amazing, with great gameplay options and customization from MC3.

Driver really needs to allow customization to not only the cars, but also the bikes, other vehicles as well as the on foot character, build your own arena, and gameplay options.

Need For Speed Carbon: Had some real nice customization,

Not to go off topic, but I have some good news about Stuntman: Ignition, turns out, it will have customization. You will unlock certain parts for your vehicles that can be used in Stunt Constructor. Although, it won't be as deep as Midnight Club 3's or Forza Motorsport 2's (probably). You can do things like change the color and add nitrous (as so I read). I hope it's all true!

Like I said, customization NEEDS to come standard in all car games. I'm glad THQ got the point with Stuntman: Ignition. The producers of a car game without car customization nowadays are all cracksmokers (no offense). All the new car games must have customization (future Driver, Midnight Club, Rush, Stuntman, Forza, Gran Turismo, and other titles), NO EXCEPTIONS.

Customizing your ride makes the car your own to race around, cruise with; something many gamers like to see is their "dream vehicle" in game form. Customization, good customization like in MC3, makes it possible.

I agree, GTA:SA's customization sucked. You can't save any of your rides (well maybe at your safehouse garages you can, but your ride won't get towed back for salvage and repairs), so if you total your ride, you wasted over $2000.00 on a piece of $#!+. GTA:SA also has only a limited amount of vehicles that can be customized, in D:PL, ANYTHING can be customized. I like D:PL's customization more than GTA's for sure, it's deeper, and more efficient.

Here are some ways I'd like to pimp my rides out in the next Driver game:

I agree with you, Driverman2006. The customization needs to be a lot more deep and it was better in DPL than in GTA: SA. With the 7th generations' powerful consoles of the PS3 and Xbox 360, I'm sure that Reflections can push this feature to high lengths.

Nice custom vehicle pics.

A driving game these days without customization seems to be lacking something. Driver could offer a really strong customization garage, similar to DPL, but the best they can make it, as it will be the next feature that gets compared to Need for Speed Pro Street and Midnight Club LA.

Yes. Both MC: LA and NFS: ProStreet are the biggest racing games to look at when considering to make a very deep customization. As for making it a really nice approach to simulated driving, look no further than GT5.

inside car view would be nice especially after you customize a vehicle so you can see nitrous gauges racing seats sparco steering wheel the game is called driver so there should be alot of customization for vehicles

Yeah I know this is an old thread, but I have a cool idea with vehicle customization. Let's put train horns on road vehicles to scare pedestrians. Check out this funny video on Youtube!:

I'd love to do that in the next Driver game!http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

You bring up a very good point. In the Driver games, the horn is practically useless. Blast it, and the people don't even scatter till they're flying over your windshield.

A louder horn that scatters crowds when used is a MUST!!!
