nothing better than seeing all those T3's and passenger liners going up in flames while you still have some torpedoes and shells left for more fun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

FLOWER DELIVERY

http://redeye.co30.com/Images/flower.jpg

Delivered about 12 rounds of 8.8cm AP right up his "stern quarters" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif He didn't even get a shot off. Killing one of these nasty little buggers is always sweet, even moreso with the gun.

Speaking of ships going down with a single hit...

yesterday I played that Bismarck mission and I was just messing around and I fired 2 acoustic torps at these 2 ships.

One got its props blown off, think it eventually sank itself after that.

But the interesting and cool thing was... the other torp was tailing a King George V.

I noticed it was sort of heading into its side near the stern, which I thought was strange. But anyway, it exploded around there and took the King George V down with one shot! Must have hit the aft ammo bunker, they're usually around there I think. Still, it's very strange that the acoustic torp didn't hit the props. It's not like it was that close or anything.

The sound head in an acoustic torpedo had originally two microphones. The servo mechanism seeks the loudest sound. so when it picks up a sound, it turns towards it, and keeps turning until the other microphone picks it up, which will turn it in the opposite direction, until the sound from both microphones is equal. Which is a straight course. This why some people see an acoustic torpedo snake towards its target. Its actually balancing the sound to give equal output from both microphones. The speed of the balancing is quite slow intentionally as you don't want to blow the propellors off, you want to detonate under the ship. So if the torpedo is "balancing" it may pass the original noise source and then turn again to find it, which causes the magnetic detonator to go off. Early versions like the Falke where actually designed for use against merchants, the T5 was designed for use against Escorts. But the magnetic pistol was sensitive and the ships wash could set it off, which blew off propellors.

Had a definitive kill on a C-class DD today. He was going 25kts, saw the torpedo wake and slammed on the brakes so he took it in the forward magazine instead of amidships. It rolled almost 90 degrees in the 5 seconds it took to go down.

Awfully nice of him to adjust my aim for me like that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
